Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.What you will doThe Saint John District includes division in Havelock, Sussex, Springfield, Upham, Moss Glen, Loch Lomond, Woodmans Point, St. Stephen, Rollingdam, Campobello, St. George and Grand Manan.As a Highway Supervisor I-II, you will work under the direction of the Highway Maintenance Superintendent and be responsible for:

  • Supervision of the division crew.
  • Maintaining public relations with the community.
  • Overseeing operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Providing effective winter maintenance of highways in accordance with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructures policies and guidelines.

Essential qualifications:Highway Supervisor II:
  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year civil engineering technology program in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of winter maintenance or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • OR high school graduation or GED and six (6) years of winter maintenance or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes (1) year of supervisory experience
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 drivers license is also required
If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.Highway Supervisor I:
  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year civil engineering technology program in a related field and one (1) year of related work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • OR high school graduation or GED and four (4) years of winter maintenance work or winter and summer maintenance work experience which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 drivers license is also required
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset QualificationsPreference may be given to candidates that demonstrate recent road construction and/or road maintenance experience. SALARY:Highway Supervisor I: $1,625.00 to $2,039.00 bi-weekly (based on a 40-hour work week).Highway Supervisor II: $1,785.00 to $2,246.00 bi-weekly (based on a 40-hour work week).Providing a safe workplace for all.
