Job Description

Newcomer Pre-Employment AdvisorAbout Us: The Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resource Centre Inc. (SJNC) is a non-profit organization that provides an integrated service approach for newcomers. Reporting to the Pre-employment Lead, the Newcomer Pre-Employment Advisor is responsible for developing the strategy and tools to capture newcomers’ employable skill sets. The Newcomer Pre-Employment Advisor will also work closely with the employment and newcomer settlement advisory teams to further newcomer employment in Saint John.Duties include:

  • Develop and deliver a tool and process to accurately determine newcomers’ employable skill set
  • Research suitable tools and software to collect and analyze employment skills data.
  • Coordinate and gather information from stakeholders, government organizations, and non-profits on current employment trends
- Identify challenges newcomers are facing to gain meaningful employment
  • Organize focus group discussions with newcomers to validate the data gathered
  • Design and test data-gathering tools
  • Assist in developing communication and marketing materials.
  • Referral clients to suitable employment support
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications & Experience:
  • One year of related experience;
  • Excellent written and oral English communication are essential. French language abilities are considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable of the needs of multicultural communities;
  • Post-secondary education (Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma) in the field of business, human resources, or related fields or a combination of experience and education is preferred;
  • Work experience with non-profit organizations is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team;
The Newcomer Pre-Employment Advisor must be:
  • willing to work offsite, as required;
  • flexible about working hours when required;
  • willing and available to work occasional evenings and weekends;
  • travel in the province or across the city as required.
