Job Description

The University of New Brunswick Saint John welcomes applications for the position of Technology & Accommodation Assistant with Student Services. This is a 1-year term, full -time (36.25 hours per week) position with a salary range of $37,162 - $46,454 per annum.The Student Accessibility Centre provides services and support for students with disabilities. The Technology and Accommodations Assistant will assess students technological needs and recommend appropriate interventions. coordinate the peer note-taker program, assist with testing accommodations, and provide frequent check ins with students.Position Summary:

  • Assess, recommend and, where appropriate, provide recommended technological interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Assist students with applications for the Canada Study Grant for Equipment and Services for Students with Permanent Disabilities.
  • Train students on hardware, software, and apps.
  • Advise the Student Accessibility Centre Coordinator on appropriate hardware and software needs of the Centre.
  • Coordinate the peer note-taker programme. Recruit peer note-takers, manage the flow of notes from peer note-takers to students.
  • Investigate and develop appropriate technological solutions for the efficient delivery of notes.
  • Provide support to peer notetakers in the conversion of notes to pdfs.
  • Answer queries in a timely manner from peer-notetakers and students receiving notes.
  • Liaise with professors where appropriate.
  • Convert tests into the appropriate format for students specific academic accommodations.
  • In collaboration with the Student Accessibility Support Assistant, ensure that the appropriate technology is available at the proper time and location to meet a given students testing needs.
  • Follow-up frequently with students registered with the Centre to inquire into how their term is progressing.
  • Collaborate with the Student Accessibility Centre Coordinator to refer students to the appropriate resources.
  • Other duties as required
Requirements/Skills:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in disability studies, computer technology, education, or related field; or certificate in a field of study related to disabilities, i.e., Assistive Technology Certificate, Developmental Assistant, or related field.
  • Two years of practical experience in a technology setting with troubleshooting, quality testing, enhancing, and maintaining software, hardware, and technology.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to support and train individuals in the use of adaptive technologies.
