Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2000 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centers across the province. The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is playing a significant role in Saskatchewan #39;s economic future. You can contribute to that success while building your career.The Facilitator for the Essential Skills for the Workplace Program (ESWP) will be responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and facilitating all program components for lower literacy adult learners. The goal of the program is to assist lower literacy (Level 1 and 2) adult learners build essential skills and knowledge of the transferability of those skills to future employment experiences and career choices.The Facilitator will be responsible for delivering a specific program according to the needs of the community, funding agency or employer. Working collaboratively with other SIIT employees and partners, the Facilitator will demonstrate a strong commitment to create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment at SIIT. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT #39;s vision, mission, and mandate. The position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

  • Plan and develop lesson plans in communication, numeracy, problem solving, workplace essential skills using the Level 1 and 2 Benchmarks contained in the Circle of Learning;
  • Assist will the planning and coordination of other employment preparation skill building certificate trainings;
  • Plan a project in collaboration with participants to facilitate the development and practice of workplace skills; or
  • Liaise with prospective employers, community organizations and businesses; and
  • Link participants to work placements or volunteer opportunities for a total of 60 hours.
  • Provide career information and assist participants with identifying their skills and strengths into a portfolio;
  • Apply strength based approaches to facilitate the social competence of participants;
  • Create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment that provides the opportunity for meaningful learning and skill development;
  • Maintain program data and complete reports in a timely manner; and
  • Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures.
  • Prepare lesson plans and appropriate delivery methods, following the curriculum provided
  • Create and maintain all course-related materials including evaluations, attendance records, and course evaluations
  • Work closely with participants to identify their barriers and to guide them to determine appropriate solutions
  • Network and build relationships with appropriate employment agencies, networks and employers
Required Qualifications and Experience: The minimum educational qualification for this position is a two-year post-secondary diploma in Education, Social Services, Business Administration, or Project Planning. An understanding of adult learning theories and principals is considered an asset. Two (2) years of related experience in Facilitating or teaching and experience and knowledge of local and provincial labour markets, educational institutes and community resource. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. . Experience in assessing and counseling First Nation adults is considered an asset. Experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset.
