Job Description

Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is playing a significant role in Saskatchewan #39;s economic future. You can contribute to that success while building your career. Nature and Scope The Registered Psychologist will provide culturally responsive, holistic, strength-based psycho-educational assessments to SIIT students across Saskatchewan. The role is a key part of the Kahkisiw model, supporting its holistic goals by contributing to wrap-around services that foster student success, well-being, and barrier reduction. Service responsibilities include providing support to both urban locations (Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert) and rural program delivery sites. As an employee of SIIT, the Registered Psychologist will adhere to the ethical guidelines of the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists and align their work with SIIT #39;s performance standards, direction, and values. This position will actively promote an environment that reflects SIIT #39;s vision, mission, mandate, and the holistic student-centered approach of Kahkisiw.While the primary focus will be on supporting SIIT students, the Registered Psychologist will also complete a mutually agreed-upon number of assessments for the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI) as part of an ongoing collaborative partnership. Assessments will identify and diagnose potential intellectual and cognitive barriers and will include evidence-based recommendations that draw on both formal and informal findings. The process emphasizes identifying strengths, needs, community support, and opportunities to access resources or equipment that reduce barriers and enhance academic success. This work is carried out by establishing and maintaining trusting, collaborative relationships with First Nations Communities, and internal SIIT Administration.General AccountabilityThe Registered Psychologist will abide by the Ethical Guidelines outlined by the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists and will have the ability to identify and diagnose neurological disorders (APE) as well as intellectual and cognitive barriers. Collaboration with students, various departments, external organizations, First Nations communities, and the Student Wellness Support team is essential to creating appropriate, evidence-based recommendations that foster success. Referrals for psychological assessments occur when a student demonstrates indicators as identified by the Student Wellness Supports team. This process follows the established referral procedures and is completed in close collaboration with the Academic team while aligning with the holistic, wrap-around philosophy of Kahkisiw.The Registered Psychologist will complete formal and informal assessments of students to develop relevant, evidence-based, and culturally responsive recommendations. The incumbent will work closely within the department, the Academic team, other SIIT staff, and key community partners. The role also supports the holistic goals of the Kahkisiw model by contributing to wrap-around services that foster student success and well-being. This position includes the following accountabilities:Specific Accountabilities Assessment and Support

  • Gathering pertinent information through file reviews, formal and informal interviews, previous assessments and reports, and observations
  • Administering formal psycho-educational assessments within the cognitive, social, emotional, academic, and behavioral domains with students
  • Analyzing, corroborating, and interpreting the information gathered while acknowledging and accounting for test bias, language, and cultural differences
  • Generating culturally responsive, holistic reports that include a strengths-based synthesis of the results, diagnostic information, recommendations, evidence-based and traditional interventions, and local resources to support future success
  • Diagnosing intellectual and cognitive barriers in adults utilizing the DSM-5, current research, and collaboration with medical professionals
  • Fostering trauma-sensitive and inclusive relationships and spaces
  • Providing counselling, education, and psychotherapy to students throughout the assessment process
  • Attending meetings with students and their support team to share assessment results and recommendations
Program Development and Administration
  • Ensuring that all psychology services align with SIIT #39;s values, strategic plan, and performance standards
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to the impact of trauma and mental health conditions on student performance
  • Providing leadership and expertise on matters related to student retention and success.
  • Delivering in-service training, professional development, and collaboration with SIIT staff
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and training in assessment, Indigenous practices, and relevant legislation and policies
  • Supporting the implementation of an evidence-based service delivery model within Student Supports that aligns with the holistic principles of Kahkisiw
Relationship Management
  • Building and maintaining trusting, collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, service delivery agencies, and SIIT administration in support of SIIT #39;s vision and objectives
  • Consult with and support colleagues to advocate for the needs of students
  • Demonstrating leadership and initiative in sharing research findings and outcomes with key stakeholders
Reporting
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential files and records in accordance with privacy legislation, Saskatchewan College of Psychologists #39; Ethical Guidelines, and SIIT policies
Required Qualifications and Experience: A Masters degree in Educational Psychology and licensure with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists with Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE). Areas of competency should include assessment and counselling. A minimum of five years of practical experience working in inclusive education is recommended. The incumbent must possess a valid driver #39;s license as travel is required. A criminal record check and vulnerable sector search will also be required. As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT #39;s Alcohol and Substances policy.
