Job Description

ECONEXT – BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICEReconext is seeking a Business Development Officer to join their team on a two-year contract based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to lead its efforts related to creating “value from waste”.econext is a not-for-profit association of business that accelerates clean growth within Newfoundland and Labrador.econext works on behalf of over 200 members to foster environmentally sustainable economic development. To achieve this, the organization focuses its activities and initiatives in six (6) areas by providing: a support framework for entrepreneurs and start-ups; networks to help increase productivity and competitiveness; tools to encourage and foster innovation; export and international business development programming; training and professional development opportunities to build capacity; and leadership on policy and advocacy issues.What you will be doing:Newfoundland and Labrador is a province with immense clean growth potential. Its vast untapped clean energy resources provide for substantial renewable energy, hydrogen, and clean fuels opportunities. It is an innovator in creating value from waste streams, and is home to a world-leading cluster of expertise in the sensing, characterization, and monitoring of the environment. Its current strengths in its natural resource sectors, from offshore oil and gas to mining, are helping to pave the way for the energy transition.The Business Development Officer will be responsible for contributing to the goals and objectives of econext by:

  • Engaging with industry, business, innovators, entrepreneurs, and other key stakeholders
  • Helping to define circular economy opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Collaborating and building partnerships to address identified challenges
  • Facilitating action when required
  • Creating opportunities for the private sector
The work of the Business Development Officer will help to create new economic activity and innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador in waste management.What you will bring:
  • Ability to engage in discussions at firm level on business growth plans and opportunities
  • University degree or college diploma considered an asset
  • 3-5 years’ experience in business development roles considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, both written and spoken
  • Relationship and network-building skills
  • Experience writing reports and proposals
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to thrive both as a member of several teams and independently
  • Demonstrated skills in project management, planning, and policy
  • Background in waste management or circular economy an asset but not required
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to vehicle
The Perks:econext offers a competitive compensation package including a salary of $60,000-$70,000 (dependent on combination of qualifications), and the following benefits:
