Job Description

Bonaventure Retirement Home is looking for an Interim General Manager who can lead an enthusiastic team dedicated to providing excellence in resident care. Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager directs the day-to-day operation of the personal care home to maximize profitability and occupancy in accordance with Kingsway Living operational guidelines. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the team, monitor the financials and budgets of each department, assist with the implementation of marketing initiatives to drive sales with a primary focus on creating a positive atmosphere for residents and employees.The ideal applicant will be a polished professional with strong leadership and communication skills, and a passion for enriching the lives of seniors where they can enjoy a lifestyle and quality of life, which far exceeds their expectations.Responsibilities

  • Provides operational leadership to the team of managers, and employees in order to meet the company’s objective and goals including customer service, continuous quality improvements, dietary, food services, health & wellbeing, recreational activities, occupational health & safety, housekeeping, maintenance and financial management.
  • Partner with Regional Health Authority and Service NL ensuring compliance with all government standards.
  • Manage the retirement community in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits and create corrective action plans as needed.
  • Participates in the development, execution and achievement of the long-term strategic plan for the residence.
  • Leads marketing initiatives to attract new prospects and referrals to the residence.
  • Fosters good communication and a strong work environment to build and maintain a high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews of the staff and addresses any performance issues.
  • Maintain high standards to achieve quality resident care while building and maintaining strong local community awareness, relationships with current and prospective residents and employees.
  • Supports and maintains operational and capex budgets.
  • Analysis and monitor financial performance of departments, inventory, purchasing activities and expenditures.
  • Continuously strives to achieve quality service by understanding operational issues and concerns, obtaining feedback from residents, family and staff on a regular basis.
  • Actively participates in resident executive meetings when needed to provide monthly updates.
  • Ensures designated suites are showcased and ready for site tours.
  • Makes recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer on how to maximize resident satisfaction, occupancy and other revenue opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications or Skills Required:
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in the seniors housing, hospitality or general management profession
  • Experience in a progressively responsible role where they have demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills, marketing, financial planning and effective problem solving
  • Graduate of certificate/diploma or degree in Business, Hospitality or Nursing Initiative, good judgement and leadership abilities, supervisory capabilities.
  • Good communication skills; both oral and written
  • Ability to relate to all levels of staff, the residents, and their families with a high degree of patience, tolerance, and confidentiality.

  • 8 hour shift

  • St. Johns, NL: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Education:
  • Secondary School (preferred)
Experience:
  • Management: 2 years (preferred)
