These positions offer a minimum of 40 hours per week from December 2022 - March, 2023.Opportunities may include:First Class Operator - Roads DivisionSecond Class Operator - Refuse - Waste & Recycling DivisionSecond Class Operator - Parks & Open Spaces DivisionAccountabilitiesFirst Class Operator - The individual will be required to operate various pieces of heavy equipment including but not limited to: Truck/sander plow, front end loader, grader, roller, sidewalk plow, snow blower and rubber tire backhoe. S/he may be required to participate in all aspects of the City’s snow clearing and removal operations including but not limited to, ice control, snow clearing, snow removal, spotting, and wingblade operation, etc. As well, the individual will be expected to perform labour work, refuse collection, and other duties that may be required to support the operations of the Department.Second Class Operator - Refuse (Waste & Recycling Division) - Individuals are required operate a refuse collection truck in the curb side collection of garbage and/or recycling.Second Class Operator (Parks & Open Spaces Division) - Individuals will be required to operate smaller pieces of equipment and perform other duties to support winter operations such as manual shoveling and salting, filling salt boxes, etc.Individuals must be physically able to do the duties of the position; have a safe driving record and be able to maintain records as required, understand and adhere to all applicable policies and regulations pertaining to these duties.The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. The above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified and shall not be considered a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the job.QualificationsEducation: Successful completion of High school Diploma or equivalent (GED, ABE, etc).Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience operating heavy equipment (including tandem and loader);ORIn addition to high school diploma or equivalent, must have successfully completed a provincially registered Heavy Equipment Operator Training Program and have some experience operating heavy equipment.Snow clearing experience would be an asset.An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.License: Class 03 Driver’s License with 08 and 09 endorsements.Current Driver’s abstract must be provided.Candidates will be required to submit copies of the above noted credentials.
