Who is March of Dimes CanadaFrom our humble beginnings in 1951 as a group of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes in support of polio research, March of Dimes Canada has grown into a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization. We work for people with disabilities and seniors, helping them with daily living, rehabilitation and employment.What does the Community Support Services team doOur Community Support Services team, which is primarily funded by governments, provides essential services that enable people to live as independently as possible. Whether the disability is physical, cognitive or the result of brain injury or aging, our team of 1,600 employees assists people in their homes and communities, helping them gain a greater level of functioning and connection with others. Over the past year, the number of people we serve rose to more than 6,100 people.This OpportunityWe are currently looking to fill one full-time permanent Rehabilitation Services Coordinator in St.Johns.Duties include the following:
  • Effectively manages and approves program resources, human and financial needs to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Recruits, employs, trains, supervises and evaluates support service staff, within apre-determined budget in accordance with the approved program plans.
  • Coordinates the assessment, development and implementation of rehabilitation plans with assigned staff.
  • Monitorsand evaluatesoperational effectiveness, and implements changes required for improvement.
  • Participates as a member of CSS administration team in planning, problem resolution, quality improvement and review of service delivery performance.
  • Acts as a resource to staff and families in the provision of long term support and service coordination for complex or catastrophic cases to enable adults with a brain injury to remain in community.
  • Participates on community committees where appropriate.
  • Marketing of services for both public and privately funded services.
  • Acts as a staff resource to support activities of Community Support Supervisor
Background / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services program or equivalent preferred
  • 2 – 5 years experience in the Social Services/Health Sector, coordinating servicesfor individuals with ABI.
  • Concrete knowledge of the effects of an ABI
  • Community based experience working with individuals with an ABI, physicaldisabilities or special needs
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading teams
  • Working knowledge of third party funders and corresponding legislation.
  • Highly organized and excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train employees to include organizing,prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Knowledge of human relations
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • General understanding of computer hardware and software
  • Strong ability to assess and determine effective compensatory strategies for individuals with brain injuries.
