Competition Number: 2022 SA 034 (please quote in application)Location: St. John’s, NLSalary Scale: CG-36 ($58,676.80 - $65,483.60)Closing Date: July 27, 2022About UsAt the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (the Centre) we provide quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers, and health system decision makers. Through collaboration with the health system, we support the development of data and technical standards, maintain key health databases, carry out analytics and evaluation and support health research. We support the regional health authorities, as well as the patients and communities they serve, in the delivery of information technology (IT) and eHealth services applied in the healthcare system to provide quality care. Our mandate also includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record as well as other provincial clinical information programs, including the change management required to support adoption by end user clinicians.About the RoleReporting to the Manager, Data Center, as a Systems Administrator you will:

  • Set-up and support of all hardware requirements for the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information’s internal operations including hardware hosting, email, backups, file and print sharing, etc.
  • Act as support and backup resource for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) hardware and software which includes the Storage Area Network (SAN) and Unix servers running all EHR applications
  • Install, configure, and monitor the health of operating systems for the Centre’s internal servers (both physical and virtual)
  • Install and support Microsoft Active Directory environment and any related technical software tools
  • Install and support corporate Microsoft Exchange email system and any related technical software tools (including Microsoft Office 365 and mobile device management)
  • Provide Tier 2 support to Service Desk for problems related to server hardware, operating systems, and relevant application software
  • Install, configure, and monitor the Centre’s internal backup systems, perform daily backups, monitor, verification, offsite tape storage, and troubleshoot backups, as well as policy development related to backups
  • Ensure all procedures are documented and tested in relation to all support systems and processes (i.e., the Centre’s Disaster Recovery plan, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal teams
About YouYour education and experience include:
  • Degree or Diploma in Information Technology (IT)
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in a system support role
  • Experience working with a wide variety of technical platforms such as UNIX, Linux, Windows, Server, and Desktop Virtualization
  • Experience providing technical advice to project teams and management.
You have the following skills and abilities:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills complimented by the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and access issues.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information using excellent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion.
It would be an asset if you have:
  • IT certifications in ITIL, Linux, Unix, or Storage
