We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.Purpose of the Role:The position will develop and enhance strong, positive working relationships with the Tahltan communities by building relationships and understanding community concerns and interests.The position is geared towards candidates with a deep understanding of Tahltan communities and an interest in working with the Tahltan Nation in areas such as community engagement, economic development, community investment and communications.The role will be based in either Iskut or Telegraph Creek, however flexible work arrangements will be evaluated depending on the successful applicants circumstances.Accountabilities:

  • Actively support the Community Relations/Social Performance team to create and maintain a strong and positive working relationship with the Tahltan Central Government, the Iskut Band and the Tahltan Band through a participatory approach.
  • Develop and enhance strong, positive working relationships with the Tahltan communities in proximity to the Red Chris mine by building and managing relationships.
  • Support and oversee local Newcrest Project office.
  • Support and coordinate community engagement activities such as community visits, meetings and kitchen table meetings.
  • Support good community relations by organizing and coordinating tours, site visits, participation in job fairs, and other community events.
  • Develop and support Red Chris community engagement program coordination, including scheduling, meeting planning and presenting
  • Support regular coordination and communication between Tahltan Nation and Red Chris.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of the Impact Benefit and Co-Management Agreement in partnership with the Tahltan Central Government.
  • Prepares quarterly reports, as requested
  • Monitoring social performance activities with a view to improving social issues management, including grievance management.
  • Positively influence Newcrest’s brand and reputation.
  • Monitor and report on emerging community social performance issues and support the Superintendent in the development of proactive responses.
  • Track engagement activities and key communications in a database.
  • Support relationships with local community entities and organizations.
  • Support economic development initiatives in local communities.
  • Support community investment initiatives in local communities.
  • Act as a between Newcrest and the broader Tahltan Nation.
  • Assist in development of communication materials.
  • Demonstrates high professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with company policy and values.
  • Assist the Principal Social Performance as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Must reside in a Tahltan community with preference given to Iskut and/or Telegraph Creek. Consideration will also be given to candidates in Dease Lake.
  • High school completion, post-secondary education an asset.
  • Deep understanding of the Tahltan Nation and Tahltan communities.
  • Experience in Community Relations or mining an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with and work well with others.
  • Professional attitude, able to take direction and feedback.
  • Strives to improve own knowledge and skills.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment to produce results quickly and efficiently.
  • Have organizational skills, who can work independently and in a team environment.
  • Computer experience in Window’s environment including Microsoft Office suite (includes PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher and Adobe Professional).
