Job Description

The OpportunityNative Plant Solutions (NPS), a branch of Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), is looking for a confident, energetic, and dedicated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to join our team. This position will support DUC’s revenue generating branch, NPS (www.nativeplantsolutions.ca).NPS provides environmental services and on-the-ground expertise in upland and wetland ecosystems to industry, land developers and government agencies in western Canada. Working with a multi-faceted team of NPS professionals, you will lead and support the development and implementation of GIS products and deliverables.You need to be an enthusiastic team player – a self-starter who can work with anyone and capable of seeing the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. This position requires you to be an effective communicator and able to build positive working relationships.This position requires expertise in GIS databases, applications and products that support NPS’ fee-for-service projects and programs. Additional experience in wetland and/or native grass ecology or agriculture would be considered an asset to the position. In addition to delivering our GIS services, candidates must be comfortable working in the field and coping with variable weather conditions as a portion of your time may be spent working outdoors.You possess strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. You have demonstrated expertise in project planning, project management, and in the delivery and development of GIS products. You are self-motivated, enjoy a complex, changing environment and can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines.You possess strong technical writing skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a project team. You pride yourself on meeting deadlines and delivering quality results in a complex and changing environment.Your GIS technical experience and your demonstrated knowledge in the concepts and use of GIS technology makes you the ideal candidate for this position.Requirements

  • Completion of an Advanced Diploma or Certificate in Geographic Information Systems Technology;
  • An undergraduate degree in Agriculture, Agroecology, Plant Science, Soil Science, Biology or a related discipline is considered an asset;
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise Platform (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server);
  • Demonstrated ability in the acquisition, management and processing of geospatial data and associated metadata, the development of geospatial applications, and spatial analyses/modeling;
  • Demonstrated ability in image processing, classification, accuracy assessment of remotely sensed data;
  • Strong planning, reporting and project management skills;
  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to foster professional/business relationships;
  • Experience in the delivery of biological or agricultural field programs would be an asset;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; and,
  • The successful candidate is required to submit proof of COVID-19 Vaccination.
Salary
  • Salary to be commensurate with experience.
