Shipwright / Fiberglass Repair Technician SummaryThe position is as the lead composite repairs for customers of SWMS.Duties and Responsibilities· Accurately estimating jobs – Time and Materials· Work with supervisor to Project Manage each job.· Supply supervisor with material list prior to job commencing· Communicate effectively with supervisor (s) and client (s) regarding the job at hand· Perform structural and cosmetic fiberglass repairs· Ability to re-core· Detect and repair osmosis blistering· Perform grinding and sanding to prep all areas for repair· Perform gel coat matching and gel coat application as needed using both spray and brushing techniques· Design and manufacture molds as required· Prepare boat hulls (bottoms) by scraping, sanding and / or using stripper as required· Apply marine coatings as per Manufacturer specifications, thickness, dry times, and application techniques.· Properly preparing, applying and feathering composite materials to ensure all repair areas of discrepancies have been removed.· Wash, Polish and Wax hulls / Stainless Steel· Paint repairs using the brush and tip method· Clean and oil woodwork· Clean / Scrape / Sand woodwork, and properly apply varnish· Perform maintenance and / or servicing of tools (both hand and power) required to perform the assigned jobs· Must be willing to undertake new training as requested by management or to up-grade current skill set.Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behavioral Characteristics Needed1. Strong knowledge of operations and safety techniques2. Spray Painting, Rolling and Tipping, Laying Up Fiberglass, Faring and Sanding, Cored Material Repair, Color Matching Gelcoat, Sealant Application and Removal, Paint Effect and Graphics Layout, Schematic Reading, Parts Requisition Planning3. Proactive; not problemâ€driven4. Proficient with various hand tools (drill, grinder, skill saw, etc.)5. Flexibility and adaptability6. Basic knowledge of Mechanical Workings of Boats7. Willing to work with ApprenticesJob requirements1. Meet Hourly/Revenue Expectations as determined on a quarterly basis and adhere to cost saving measures.2. Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, and Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Shining Waters Marine Services policies, procedures and training3. Consistent attendance4. Must be willing to perform other duties as assigned5. Must be willing to work overtime as required to ensure assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner6. Maintain a service oriented, positive and respectful attitude towards management, staff and clients7. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions8. Regularly work with fumes or airborne particles requiring the use of a respirator and / or additional PPE.9. Regularly work in small or tight spaces10.
