Job Description

Field School Technician - Centre of Learning Transformation (Terrace)Job description and dutiesCoast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a term Field School Technician. The appointment will commence as soon as possible and end August 31, 2023. This position requires a flexible schedule, as some evening/weekend work and travel will be required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff level 6.Duties: The Field School Technician will support the organization and successful delivery of multiple field schools throughout the college region. This position will include transporting students and attending over-night and multi-night field trips.Tasks will include:

  • Provide administrative support for field schools
  • Assist with set-up and maintenance of teaching equipment and field gear, ensuring gear is organized and ready
  • Assist with delivery of lessons and activities
  • Provide tutoring and academic support and encouragement for students
  • Ensure all compliance with safety regulations and procedures
  • Demonstrate equipment use and specifics in procedure as required
  • Prepare and maintain an inventory list of equipment and gear for field schools
  • Ensure proper storage of all equipment and gear at the end of field schools
  • All other related duties of similar scope and complexity
QualificationsA minimum of Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus one year of post-secondary education along with related work experience. Required certificates include WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, First Aid Level 1 (OFA 3 or Advance Wilderness First Aid will be preferred)) with transportation endorsement. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Appropriate training may be offered.Required skills and abilities include:
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Internet, email)
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills to effectively and efficiently manage multiple demands
  • Diligent attention to safety and safe work procedures
  • Intuitive and service oriented with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, demonstrating enthusiasm for equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Persuasive and engaging communication skills with an ability to clearly express ideas and deliver captivating and dynamic presentations
  • Well-developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to lift and move heavy/bulky items weighing up to 40lbs or more
  • Minimum of a Class 5 driver’s license required, Class 4 license preferred in order to drive the field school bus
