Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantec has an opportunity for a full-time Indigenous Relations Advisor to help lead our Indigenous services programs. Ideally, the position will be in our Sidney or Burnaby, British Columbia offices. However, there is flexibility for our other offices in British Columbia.Our Indigenous Services group specializes in the integration of traditional knowledge into environmental assessments, Indigenous knowledge and land use studies, and Indigenous engagement support across Canada. We have provided planning, management, assessment, and mitigation services to private sector resource developers, all levels of government, non-governmental groups, and Indigenous groups. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in collaboration with Indigenous groups.The Indigenous Relations Advisor will be responsible for delivering Indigenous Services, which include supporting environmental assessment and permitting processes, Indigenous knowledge studies, report writing, and assisting with Indigenous consultation and engagement activities.Your Key ResponsibilitiesBuilding internal Indigenous Services capacity within Stantec, including providing guidance, support and mentoring to junior staffDesigning study programs and assessment methods that meet client needs, emerging regulatory requirements and Indigenous group expectationsLiaising with project managers and other disciplines to provide direction on the consideration and integration of Indigenous knowledge in environmental assessmentsAssisting project managers/crew leads with coordination/planning/logistics of field crews with indigenous participation on projects/field programs.Assisting clients with work that includes engagement with Indigenous groups or Indigenous participation programsConducting Indigenous knowledge and land use studies, including interviews and field studiesReporting, documentation, and quality reviewCompletion of projects efficiently within allocated budgets and timelinesWriting and contributing to proposalsBusiness development for Indigenous Services and in support of sector-related pursuitsCoach crew leads in field-related challenges with first nation participation.Track issues/challenges on field program with indigenous participation and incorporating lessons learnt in adaptive positive relationship buildingTrack communication progress on indigenous community relations on project-by-project basisQualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsStrong Indigenous-focused regulatory and environmental assessment skillsKnowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical, and political context in CanadaExperience in presenting to a variety of audiences including Indigenous and industry clients, regulatory authorities and technical teamsOutstanding interpersonal ability with diverse cultural groupsExcellent oral and demonstrated written communication skillsMust have a valid driver’s license as travel may be required in this position as project needs dictateProficient in Microsoft Office ApplicationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or higher (Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences)10 years' experience in environmental services, 5 years' experience with Indigenous ServicesCompletion of industry-specific safety training certificates is an assetRelevant consulting experience is an asset, particularly in community-based research.Combination of time spent in field and office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work.This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other’s talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.
