Employment Opportunity - 3 Patient LiaisonsPosition: Patient Liaisons - 3 Positions in Urban LocationsClassification: ExcludedReports to: Director of Nisgaa Health BenefitsLocations 1-Terrace, 1-Prince Rupert, 1-Vancouver, BCHours: 37.5 hours a weekTerm: Full-time PermanentPosted: August 29, 2022 Closed: September 29, 2022Salary: Commensurate with ExperienceNisga’a Valley Health Authority is seeking compassionate and motivated individuals to fill three (3) patient liaison positions within BC, for Terrace, Prince Rupert, and Vancouver. We seek individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with patients and their families. The patient liaison consults patients to support their medical care, collect patient information and elevate any concerns to healthcare providers.To be successful as a patient liaison you must be compassionate while remaining professional. A good patient liaison maintains positive relationships with patients as well as healthcare providers to build successful relationships and partnerships.Patient Liaison Responsibilities:

  • Meet with patients to discuss the quality of their care.
  • Explain medical health benefits coverage and policies to patients and as required, to families.
  • Collect information about the patients treatment progress.
  • Inform healthcare providers of any questions or complaints from patients.
  • Inform families about patients treatment progress.
  • Provide support for emergencies by managing client conduct and persons in crisis.
  • Educate patients on payment expectations and arrangements.
  • Work closely with NVHA Nisga’a Health Benefits team, RN’s, Physicians, and other staff.
  • Develop supportive relationships and strong alliances between patients, health care providers, first nations, and other entities.
  • Interview patients of hospital facility to obtain necessary information to assist with possible medical coverages and financial assistance.
  • Review client medical needs information while adhering to confidentiality policy.
  • Go over patient paper work and forms and assist as required.
  • Ensure establishments of appointments through ongoing, persistent communication with patient, referring provider, and receiving provider or facility.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to a team of healthcare practitioners while serving as an intermediary between them and patients.
  • Patient advocate for client care, and patient travel.
Patient Liaison Requirements:
  • A degree in psychology, social work or a related field, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position.
  • Prior experience in healthcare.
  • Class 5 or better Drivers License is an asset.
  • Prior experience working with Indigenous people and organizations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • An understanding of medical insurance policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Relative physical strength to lift or move patients.
  • Qualification to perform CPR or willing to obtain.
