The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting with clients, identifying project goals, planning, budgeting, preparing engineering proposals, formulating preliminary designs, preparing, and overseeing detailed designs, preparing construction cost estimates, overseeing construction and project management. You must be professional, personable, and committed to quality deliverables.Other responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing structural and multi-disciplined projects for operating industrial facilities and commercial environments.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently when managing multiple tasks.
  • Overseeing the work of staff throughout various project stages from conceptual, feasibility, and detailed design to construction.
  • Establishing design and construction schedules and monitoring progress of various projects and their conformance to design and construction schedules.
  • Analyzing geotechnical reports, condition assessment reports, drawings, topographic surveys, and other project input data to plan projects.
  • Maintaining compliance of the design team with established quality assurance requirements.
  • Providing feedback and advice regarding the technical and structural aspects of company/client projects to management and other project leaders.
  • Performing technical reviews and provide recommendations regarding designs and reports prepared by sub consultants or suppliers.
  • Adaptability and the ability to handle ambiguity.
  • Capable of analyzing, assessing, evaluating the issues, complexity pertaining to projects and work packages and supporting as the team lead in mitigating them in advance.
  • Rigorous attention to detail, able to understand and adopt workflows and commitment to personal professional development.
  • Reviewing project documents and drawings for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable client standards and stakeholder requirements.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • Detailed engineering design of steel, concrete, wood and masonry structures.
  • Experience in fabrication and construction.
  • Demonstrated understanding of structures and how they behave and respond to environmental and operational loads.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles, and how they can be practically and effectively applied to solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and be able to effectively plan and manage priorities.
  • Excellent organizational, technical, writing, communicational and computer skills.
  • Able to manage and mentor other engineers and designers.
  • Able to work in a self-directed manner in all aspects of design and document preparation.
  • Able to estimate the manhours of proposed projects for both engineers and designers and the required resources needed to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrated client interfacing and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable liaising with other discipline leads, project managers, vendors, contractors, and clients to facilitate smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed design and provide design clarifications and solutions during construction.
  • Be able to prepare effective cost and progress reports to communicate back to the stakeholders.
  • Preparing proposals, writing of technical reports and construction documents; and support of construction phase services.
  • This role will also require project managing skills to complete projects on time and within budget proposed.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reports to the Civil/Structural Manager.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite (emphasis on Wordamp; Excel), Lotus Notes, Acrobat Pro, and other software systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as BIM, MicroStation, AutoCAD and analysis software packages such as SAP2000, S-Frame or similar programs.
