The Railcar Technician in The Pas plays a vital role in our Western maintenance operations; preparing our train optimally for Canadians living in beautiful Manitoba. The overarching theme here is high productivity and attention to detail. Duties will focus on mechanical inspections and repairs.VIA Rail Canada continually surpasses Transport Canada’s safety standards year after year. Our focus is preventative maintenance, commitment through careful procedures on all our rolling stock.We’re thrilled to offer a chance to add one more seriously committed team-player to our Railcar Tech team—delivering one of Canada’s most integral public services to the communities that need us most!DESCRIPTIONThe successful candidate will be responsible for many duties, including:

  • General maintenance on: seats, toilets, tables, sinks, blinds, panels, windows, etc.
  • Determining root causes of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic defects on rolling stock.
  • Servicing major components of the train: wheelsets, couplers, springs, brake rigging etc.
  • Plumbing and piping for air and water.
QUALIFICATIONSLOOKING FOR EXPERIENCE AS RCT OR TRANSFERABLE SKILLS AS:
  • Millwright
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Carpenter
  • Plumber
  • Welder/Fabricator
  • Automotive Technician
**Red seal certified tradespersons are ideal, however we welcome apprentices to apply!SCHEDULE- The position is permanent (40 hours per week guaranteed) and the work schedule may vary (day, evening, night, week-end and holidays) but mostly between 1pm to 4 am- Tuesdays and wednesdays off
  • Never on-call, your shifts are always set so you can make the most of your time off!
  • Over-time is available
  • Candidates must be available to work any day of the week as the Maintenance Center is open 7 days a week during peak season.
  • Shifts may start as early as 6:00 am and end as late as midnight.
WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU Hourly salary: 32.58$ - 39.30 $/H - Based on experienceEvening shift differential: $1.50/HNight shift differential : $2.00/HRed Seal differential: $1.00/HFull benefits : Dental, medical (prescription glasses , drug prescription) , pension plan, ride pass,5 personal days + vacationsUniforms, all tools, PPE provided (boots, glasses, helmet, vest, gloves) , free parking, showerpersonal change room provided, indoor lunch room.Requirements :
  • Competency in Mechanics, Millwrighting, Plumbing, or Welding/Fabrication
  • Experience in more than one trade.
  • Red seal certification.
  • Experience in machinery maintenance.
  • Experience assembling, mounting, or finishing transportation equipment.
  • A “Get It Done” attitude.
