Job Description

Location:Flexibility of locations would be an asset. Must be available to work at either any two of the four Markham Depot locations during the employment period. (John&Bayview, Markham Rd.&HWY7, HWY7&Main Street Unionville, Kennedy&14th Ave.)Hours of Work: Flexibility of work hours required. Hours of work vary including days, evenings, and Saturdays.Job Summary:Responsible for greeting residents and receiving items to be recycled at a City of Markham Recycling Depot. Attendants will sort items and place them in the correct bins and/or direct the residents to place them in the correct bins. Also provides information to the residents on items that are acceptable for recycling and sells recycling containers e.g. “blue boxes”, “green bins” etc. The depot attendant is responsible for providing a consistent, pleasant, professional and helpful level of front-line customer service to the public.Duties may include:- Greets and assists residents, including unloading of materials, providing guidance with respect to source separation procedures as well as information pamphlets and verbal instructions on the City of Markham’s recycling policies and programs. (Supports diversion programs)- Ensures an adequate supply of recycling containers (“blue boxes”, “green bins”, Kitchen Catchers) is available and notifies supervisor when stock is depleted according to procedures.- Sells recycling containers to the general public upon request, accepts payments, provides receipts and records in record of transactions.- May open and close the depot. Attendants are responsible for locking and unlocking the depot at the start and end of each shift- May operate compactor- Miscellaneous duties e.g. shovelling snow, salting pathways and around bins in winter.- Operates the facility while ensuring clean and safe conditions for visitors and staff.- Wear Personal Protective Equipment and follow Health & Safety Policies at all times.- Other duties assignedQualifications:- Some prior experience in the capacity of serving customers preferred- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ (would be an asset)- Excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diverse general population.- Basic mathematics skills for performing simple calculations.- Good judgement- Good problem solving skills- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team effectively- Ability to work outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions- Must have appropriate safety footwear/bootsWe thank all those applicants who applied but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Part-time hours: 8 - 40 per weekExpected start date: 2021-11-15Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, PermanentSalary: $15.00-$15.50 per hourBenefits:
