Walker Industries has a strong reputation for integrity and innovation while being dedicated to the communities and environment in which they operate, as well as the safety of all employees.The Opportunity:The Compensation and Benefit Specialist will report to the Director of Total Rewards and support efforts to maintain compensation program competitiveness through administrative and analysis work designed to reinforce efforts to attract, retain, and engage our workforce. By completing data analysis and leveraging market research and HR systems meaningful insights and recommendations will be generated to enhance informed business decisions, strengthen salaried and hourly wage administration accuracy, policy application consistency and other employee pay component regulation.The ability to work up to two (2) days per week remotely is an option, if desired.Candidate Profile:The successful candidate has proven HR experience from work in this area of the field for at least three years, having gained exceptional research, analysis and data management and synthesis skills while supporting employees and managers, proactively helping them find the answers they need. They will be meticulous, have outstanding business acumen, and have a sound understanding of compensation practices and analysis. Exceptional communication skills and an ability to anticipate and respond to urgencies will ensure success in effectively prioritizing and managing multiple assignments and regular deadlines. Extreme discretion is required given the volume and sensitivity of confidential, compensation data and records constantly on hand. Excellent computer skills are essential as is an unwavering commitment to consistent application of pay philosophy and methodology.Walker is a values-driven company therefore it is critical that the successful candidate is a team player, who respects and mirrors Walker Values.Key Accountabilities:

  • Supports design and delivery of current or new compensation programs to align with pay and performance philosophies.
  • Researches total rewards trends, best practices, and techniques and recommends program adjustments that support responsive, appropriate, and suitable application for business operational needs.
  • Creates or updates job evaluations for new and revised roles using job evaluation methodology in place.
  • Provides analytical support to compensation projects and total rewards initiatives.
  • Completes or supports completion of compensation surveys and compensation benchmarking activities (external competitiveness, internal equity/fairness).
  • Creates, contributes to, prepares, and maintains regular reports and databases related to compensation and HR records including monthly, quarterly and annual compensation reporting.
  • Coordinates aspects of annual increase, merit, incentive and bonus programs and other compensation projects and processes including collaborating with Payroll in drafting and delivering actionable items.
  • Reviews job descriptions for existing and new roles ahead of recruitment authorization, in conjunction with divisional HR team members and the Compensation Committee, to recommend appropriate classification, grade, responsibilities and job knowledge requirements as well as consideration of alignment efforts; confers with managers as requested and appropriate.
  • Maintains job description and job evaluation tables and documentation, ensuring updates to job creation features are completed in a timely manner.
  • Develops and documents procedures to streamline processes and prepare compliance reporting for compensation plans, as required and in collaboration with HR divisional team members and Payroll, ensuring adherence to federal, provincial, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Other related and reasonable duties that may arise and be assigned, from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree from a recognized university/college in Human Resources or Business studies, or equivalent related education and directly related experience,
  • CCP/CHRP in good standing or in progress.
Experience:
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant human resources experience, performing compensation and data analysis.
