  • lead the preparation of community based land use plans in collaboration with Indigenous communities in the Far North
  • work collaboratively with other divisions and ministries to provide advice on planning teams in the areas of land use and resource management plans
  • leads engagement and consultation efforts related to land use planning including with adjacent First Nations, industry, stakeholders and the public
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
Technical knowledge:
  • You have experience with land and resource planning concepts and methodologies.
  • You have knowledge of environmental assessment principles, processes and practices.
  • You have knowledge of environmental standards, guidelines and legislation relevant to the broad scale land use planning program.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
  • You can translate technical and specialized language, concepts, processes and information into terms and
messages easily understood by a variety of audiences.
  • You can lead meetings and workshops related to land use planning.
  • You can prepare technical reports and various other forms of correspondence.
Leadership and project management skills:
  • You are able to use tact, discretion and motivation to encourage open communication.
  • You can implement and support a large volume of program and planning projects.
  • You can work cooperatively within the work unit, across the ministry and with other ministries and partners
to achieve group and ministry goals.Indigenous knowledge:
  • You have knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, social and economic issues, and an understanding of communities within and immediately adjacent to planning area for a community based land use plan to ensure consultation needs are met and the planning area is appropriate.
  • You have knowledge of Indigenous programs and policies available within the Ontario Public Service to build a relationship and common understanding in the land use planning process.
  • You have knowledge of community needs to effectively apply principles and policies in a flexible manner.
Analytical and organization skills:
  • You possess analytical and evaluative skills to assess, review and synthesize data, and to seek advice from experts/professionals on land use proposals and other regulatory approvals.
  • You possess organizational skills to lead the planning of many concurrent projects, logistical tasks, scheduling, meeting arrangements, etc.
