Job Description

Newswatch is the online component of Dougall Media, a multimedia company based in Thunder Bay that operates three regional websites (TBnewswatch, SNnewswatch and NWOnewswatch), television station, weekly newspaper, and various radio stations and we are looking for a talented and motivated journalist to fill a full-time position in Thunder Bay, Ontario.The successful candidate for this position:The successful candidate for this position has a passion for, and interest in, discovering and covering compelling stories about life in the Northwestern Ontario region (Atikokan, Fort Francis, Rainy River, up through Red Lake and the northern communities.) including crime, community events, schools, school board meetings, arts and culture, band meetings, weather, and breaking news. They would be able to quickly get to the crux of the story that highlights impact to the community. They relish chasing down a breaking news story and relaying it to readers as it happens. They are able to for relationships in the region. The ideal candidate isnt afraid to ask tough questions when required and is committed to giving a voice to the region.Qualifications

  • At least 1 year experience in journalism
  • Superior language, writing and editing skills
  • Experience with photography, and knowledge of editing software
  • A willingness to work a variety of shifts
  • A willingness to travel
  • A valid drivers licence
  • An ability to meet tight deadlines
