Bloorview Research Institute2023 Ward Summer Student Research ProgramTitle: Ward Summer Research StudentStatus: Temporary Full Time (1.00 FTE)Compensation: $15.50/hrStart Date: May 1, 2023End Date: July 21, 2023Lab: Possibility Engineering and Research Lab (PEARL)Supervisor: Elaine BiddissProgram: Bloorview Research InstituteDescriptionThe Ward Summer Student Research program provides an opportunity to experience a unique interdisciplinary mentorship experience. Successful incumbents will have opportunities to work with their mentor on a research project, attend our Lunch ‘n’ Learns and participate in the annual Ward Summer Student Research Day where they will have an opportunity to present their findings to the organization and its visitors.We are looking for an enthusiastic summer student to work on the implementation and kinematic evaluation of video games that support children of all abilities in learning, play, and health. From practicing therapy exercises at home to engaging in musical play and learning, games can encourage more equitable access to opportunities that enrich childrens lives. In this role, you will work with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, engineers, and game developers to contribute to this growing field.Compensation DetailsThe program runs for 12 weeks from May 1, 2023 – July 21, 2023. Students will be paid $15.50 per hour based on a 37.5 hour week (full-time), less statutory deductions, including 4% in lieu of vacation and relevant statutory holiday pay. Students will be paid biweekly through payroll.Key Responsibilities

  • Data entry, analysis and report writing
  • Development of data analytics and algorithms
  • Additional duties assigned as required
Qualifications
  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with minimum GPA of 80%
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff and clients
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities would be an asset
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel
  • Previous experience in any of the following areas would be an asset:
  • signal processing, algorithm design, and machine learning methods including proficiency with MATLAB or Python, OR
  • Observational and/or kinematic research studies, OR
  • Qualitative data analysis
