Are you an innovative thinker Do you thrive working with other individuals and managing multiple priorities Are you an experienced consultant looking for a new challenge and interested in working in an environment where there is a commitment to being the Ontario Public Service (OPS) leader in digital services, innovation and excellenceIf so, consider these opportunities and join the Land and Resource Cluster (LRC) with the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry.Working in the Technology Service Operations Branch, you will be part of a team providing infrastructure related services to Ministry clients and LRC project teams to meet the growing demand on providing digital service to Ontarians.The Land and Resources Cluster Technology Service Operations supports and maintains the solutions of five (5) ministries on a variety of platforms such as Java, Salesforce, GIS, Citrix, Siebel, Azure, and others.The successful candidate will have the option of working out of the following satellite office locations:

  • 40 St Clair Avenue West, Toronto
  • 300 Water Street, Peterborough
  • 1 Stone Road West, Guelph
  • 159 Cedar Street, Sudbury
  • 70 Foster Drive, Sault Ste Marie
  • 435 James Street South, Thunder Bay
What can I expect to do in this roleAs a Database System Consultant, you will:
  • Manage and coordinate computer application, development and implementation of projects, provide business analysis, and systems consulting expertise in addressing a full range of clusters information management requirements
  • Provide senior technical expertise on projects which have strategic significance for achieving the Clusters information technology (IT) plans and objectives
  • Analyze, interpret, and resolve varied and complex problems and issues that arise with IT infrastructure and associated database software
  • Perform technical business analysis and consulting expertise for clients, present and explain technical issues, identify alternatives, and address the full range of technical business solutions
How do I qualifyTechnical Knowledge and Expertise:
  • You have proven expert working knowledge of Database technology products such as Oracle Database, SQL Server, Cloud data base products with a great understanding of industry technology products both new and old.
  • You have working knowledge of new database delivery methods such as dev/ops, agile, lean and an extensive expert history working within the Oracle databases product line.
  • You can manage, monitor, and maintain business databases and infrastructure by making changes, updates, and modifications to database structure and data; maintaining and ensuring database security, integrity, stability, and availability; and maintaining and ensuring backup and recovery strategies are in place and functional.
  • You have knowledge of large-scale systems analysis, design and development, information architecture and data modeling, programming concepts and languages, Internet technology and emerging technologies
  • You have the ability to interpret legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, IT plan, project planning methodology, business, and processes.
Leadership and Project Management Skills
  • You can plan, organize, lead, and implement projects in a multi-project environment.
  • You can analyze and evaluate key technical, human, financial, and business impacts of proposed projects.
  • You are an independent leader that leads and motivates oneself and your team members.
Communication and Relationship Management Skills
  • You can interview communicate effectively with client managers, determine needs and desired changes, prepare database technology related business cases, present written reports on findings/alternate solutions.
  • You can write and edit systems documentation and provide explanation of technical solutions to non-technical staff.
  • You can write and prepare project status, interim, and final reports.
  • You can explain and discuss a variety of systems issues, options and various approached for remediation.
  • You can present and illustrate recommendations to senior management.
  • You can negotiate contracts with vendors for acquisition of services, equipment, software, and hardware.
  • You have the ability to work well with others, work independently and within teams.
Analytical and Evaluating Skills
  • You can lead and coordinate investigation and analysis of multi-client or specialized information technology requirements, including feasibility study.
  • You can lead the analysis of business and systems design requirements for systems projects, including analysis and evaluation of technical opportunities, and develop new approaches to meet information management technology needs at total system level.
  • You can identify information planning technology issues of corporate significance, evaluate impact, and coordinate the development of solutions/options.
