Our expertise in Wi-SUN, WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, and other wireless technologies is fostering a new generation of connected products. This includes innovative products like smart grid meters and door locks to residential solar energy systems and even intelligent hydration trackers.Role DescriptionThis role presents the opportunity to manage a growing team of (12) talented engineers working with a broad spectrum of technologies to build the next generation of IoT products for Smart City, commercial and medical applications. As Development Manager, you will report to the Director of Engineering, and be responsible for overseeing all staff and activities related to the development, testing, and deployment of MMB’s firmware and software products.Your responsibilities include training, managing and mentoring a world-class team of engineers specializing in embedded and software development for the IoT, as well as leading hiring initiatives as we continue to scale. You will define best practices, and lead implementation and administration of the systems and tools your team needs to succeed in their day-to-day work. You will guide your engineers in working with a cross-functional team of architects, hardware designers, and project managers to deliver mission-critical products to some of the largest and most well-known brands and companies in the world.The ideal candidate has extensive experience building, training and managing teams of at least seven engineers, and is comfortable delivering applications across both embedded and high-level environments like cloud and mobile.What You’ll be Doing

  • All staff management, day-to-day support, mentorship and training of the MMB embedded and software development teams.
  • Defining all guidelines and best practices for development and testing activities.
  • Leading implementation and administration of the systems and tools for supporting development.
  • Leading hiring initiatives as we continue to grow our team.
  • Working with our experienced architecture and development teams to scope, design, and build the next generation of connected devices and platforms.
  • Working with our QA team to validate and refine products for real-world applications.
  • Interacting with key customers to understand product requirements, and address critical issues.
  • Maintaining a broad knowledge of the standards and latest IoT industry developments, technologies and trends.

Skills and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent.
  • 3 - 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in embedded firmware and / or software development.
  • Extensive experience in DevOps, SDLC and CI / CD.
  • High proficiency developing on real-time operating systems with C / C++.
  • Proficiency with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with development and deployment of connected IoT devices.
  • Experience developing on 802.15.4 SoC’s (Silicon Labs, NXP, Nordic, Microchip, etc.).
  • Experience developing Espressif ESP32 and other market-leading 802.11 / BLE MCU’s.
  • Experience with serial interfaces (UART, SPI, RS485, I2C, etc.).
  • Experience with debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD, etc.)
  • Experience with TDD, Unit-Testing, and Integration Testing in embedded applications.
  • Experience with gathering requirements and writing design specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • (Asset) Background and experience with Agile principles and Scrum methodologies, including CSM accreditation.
  • (Asset) Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining test automation frameworks
