Its an opportunity to help people who need it the most; to ensure each client receives the access to justice afforded to them under the law.If you are looking for a new challenge in your already meaningful career with a team dedicated to justice, and innovation in a flexible and supportive work environment consider this opportunity below.Primary functionThe Digital Communications Specialist provides a broad array of communications services in support of Legal Aid Ontario’s (LAO) mandate and activities.The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for managing several web properties including the bilingual (English & French) external Legal Aid Ontario website, the internal SharePoint intranet, as well as PHP-based web tools on several different platforms.A core competency will be the applicant’s strong understanding of web accessibility and how it pertains to web development and other properties in their portfolio. This person should be familiar with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance and obligations under the Access of Ontarians Disability Act (AODA).The Digital Communications Specialist will also asked to write and edit pre-existing content for web and social media. When required, this person will also provide special event support, and articles for other LAO publications and represent the Public Affairs unit.The applicant for this position should have solid experience writing for the web and demonstrated success developing online campaigns, website management and other digital properties from concept to delivery.Home Location: Provincial Office - TorontoOther Locations: Not applicableReporting to: Director, CommunicationsKey accountabilities

  • Develop integrated print, web, and social media campaigns from concept to delivery
  • Develop and produce bilingual forms
  • External email newsletters that utilize modern UX-focused communication strategies.
  • Edit and proofread all digital content to ensure a high standard of excellence, compliance with LAO Social Media policy
  • Maintain consistency of info across multiple websites and social media channels
  • Coordinate LAO’s bilingual web content on internal/external/affiliate websites
  • Research and incorporate emerging technology to ensure currency
  • Track, measure and evaluate results of various Communications initiatives and site metrics
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement and manage event registration systems
  • Collaborate with various units in the Communications Department on projects, as required
  • Coordinate content of various programs to ensure that information is correct, current and functional
  • Manages external bilingual email distribution to stakeholders
  • Provide photography services for key events, board of director and VP portraits as well as supplemental imagery as required
  • Develops, revises and edits communications materials, as required
Required skills & experience
  • Experience working with bilingual (English and translated to French) materials and platforms.
  • French written and oral skills an asset
Digital
  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams, Office 365 environments and pages
  • Solid understanding of the social media environment
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe PDF form development using InDesign
  • HTML5 forms developed on platforms such as Gravity Forms.
  • Familiar with WordPress, Redmine, SharePoint, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
  • Familiar with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance and obligations under the Access of Ontarians Disability Act (AODA).
  • Ability and willingness to learn new methods of digital communication
  • Ability to develop, produce and edit dynamic polygon maps using GIS geographic information system software such as QGIS and Mapbox is an asset.

  • Proven track record creating high quality communication materials from a user’s perspective, particularly for the web and other digital formats
  • Experience providing internal communications in Office 365 environment
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills
  • Good knowledge of CP style, Editing Canadian English
