Job Description

WORK ILLUSTRATION:The Environmental, Social and Governance Associate reports to the Senior Manager, ESG & Training Programs, and is responsible to draft and create internal and external reports for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) related programs and initiatives. S/he provides subject matter experience to internal working groups and projects, with a goal to influence the selection and execution of corporate ESG initiatives. The incumbent develops and presents recommendations to senior leadership to support new ESG strategies and programs, and develops and delivers ESG related training and awareness content to support organizational training and onboarding programs.The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.Toronto Hydro has implemented a mandatory vaccination requirement for all its employees.   • Presents, consolidates, and compiles ESG reports and sustainability data to senior leadership to support organizational management in decision-making.
  • Creates ESG-related external reports using international reporting frameworks and standards such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) that are shared with the Board of Directors, general public, shareholders, and financial institutions.
  • Conducts internal employee interviews to create ESG success stories and develops communications to highlight ongoing initiatives on external social media and internal sources.
  • Provides expert advice on ESG protocols and procedures to areas of the business such as: communications, EHS, facilities, regulatory, acquisition services and engineering.
  • On a quarterly basis, chairs cross functional working groups within the organization to drive the development of the ESG portfolio, initiatives, and projects.
  • Develops and delivers ESG specific training and onboarding.
  • Works with a variety of business units and employees across the organization
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s/ Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, or related
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in ESG, Sustainability, or environmentally focused roles
  • ESG related post-graduate diploma or certification is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience writing ESG related corporate and external reports.
  • Knowledge of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Recommendations, and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and dashboard creation abilities (Tableau, Alteryx, etc.).
  • Experience compiling, presenting, organizing, and summarizing data to Senior leadership.
  • Strong project management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Sustainability and ESG initiatives.
  • Builds strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Works collaboratively with internal employees, business units, and external parties.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Demonstrates a positive learning attitude and takes initiative to improve processes.
Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person.
