Job Description

Evergreen College, an established and fast growing career college in Downtown Toronto, is seeking to hire an ESL part-time instructor who has the commitment and drive to help students achieve their dreams.It is the philosophy of Evergreen College to provide a unique educational path for students that will lead to successful job performance and job satisfaction in the health care, social services, business, and IT industries.An association of caring and concerned administration; qualified, experienced and certified instructors; the College directs students not only to the highest level of academic achievement and performance but also to the nourishment of personal and professional growth.Position SummaryWe are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about teaching adults and has the ability to effectively teach ESL to international students aged 18+. The instruction style should have a strong delivery in order to inspire and motivate our students.Have a strong handle on how to approach teaching adults from different cultural backgrounds, various levels of education and career experience.Effective classroom management is essential while encouraging and sustaining a positive learning environment.Remain in-line with our campus culture of preparing employable graduates for the Canadian workplace environment.Demonstrate an optimistic outlook towards newcomers and possible academic and/or interpersonal barriers.Proactively identify and remedy weaknesses in students with support from the Evergreen team when required.Summary of Duties

  • Instruct the class according to the curriculum and daily lesson plan.
  • Ensure students are aware of and understand the lesson objectives and outcomes.
  • Support students in improving their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing; various learning styles should be accommodated for optimal results.
  • Prepare all required materials (equipment, materials, handouts, tests) prior to each lesson.
  • Update students on their progress and provide constructive feedback if needed.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and professional development to students in a creative and inspirational style.
  • Foster a safe, bias-free, and respectful environment on a daily basis; proactively address any classroom conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Record and maintain accurate attendance and grades for all students; address lateness and absenteeism as per the college’s compliance requirements.
Requirements
  • TESL Ontario Certified
  • 1-2 years’ minimum experience teaching ESL is preferred
  • Strong ability to create and plan dynamic classes
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and experience in assessing students’ progress according to CLB
  • Effective communication within a team environment
  • Multicultural awareness
  • Additional experience working in the Hospitality industry would be an asset
  • Independent and resourceful but willing to work in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong computer, administrative and database management abilities
Education:
  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
Experience:
