Job Description

Requisition ID: 160738Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.Purpose of Job:The Manager, Financial Reporting, will assist in the analysis, monitoring and reporting of Retail Credit Risk, Small Business & Wealth Management portfolios including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for Scotiabanks senior management, investors and regulators.Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of Global Retail Credit Risk monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio reporting for Bank Executives and external stakeholders:
  • Development, analysis and maintenance of key senior management reports including data management, presentation, documentation, quality assurance and operational production effectiveness
  • Provide prompt and sound analysis of performance of the Retail, Small Business and Wealth Management portfolios to support management decisions
  • Participate in the identification, assessment and monitoring of credit risk trends and communicate adherence to authorized risk tolerance parameters
  • Extract, review, and analyze data from Enterprise General Ledger, Enterprise Date Lake & other various sources to address Global Retail Credit Risk ad-hoc reporting needs and projects
  • Prepare quarterly regulatory reporting and financial note disclosure:
  • Interact with the Canadian & International Retail Risk groups, Finance, Audit and other Bank departments to ensure information provided is accurate and reliable
  • Prepare reconciliations and analysis of Retail Risk and financial information to ensure that the data discrepancies are properly known and identified.
  • Assist in developing enhancements for reporting and data aggregation by:
  • Following and keeping up-to-date with regulatory requirements, End User Computing guidelines, RDARR principles and other data-related requirements
  • Improving the reporting methodology, modifying requirements per regulator guidance, identifying streamlining opportunities and redesigning as appropriate
  • Provide key support and technical expertise in data management and validations, report automation and trend analysis; Work with technology teams to identify issues and implement solutions.
Job Requirements:
  • University degree in business (finance or accounting) or a quantitative field (mathematics or statistics).
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or MBA is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive experience and functional competencies in development, analytics and delivery of senior management reporting including monthly, quarterly reporting; experience in Retail Banking, Retail Credit Risk and financial / quantitative methodologies.
  • To be successful in the position, the incumbent must have the following competencies:
  • Knowledge of current industry trends, regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Familiar with the Banks General Ledger and / or has experience with preparing financial note disclosures
  • High level of proficiency in using MS Office suite of applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint)
  • Ability to analyze raw data; strong ability to understand and write business requirements.
  • Sound project and time management skills; strong organizational and prioritization skills; strong communication skills, both verbal and written; a highly proactive attitude, and use of initiative and independent judgment
  • Knowledge and experience in Business Intelligence and analytics tools including Smart View, Essbase, SAS, Cognos, Business Objects, SQL Server and VBA would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Big Data, visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and open-source programming (SQL, R, Python) are also considered an asset.
