Job Description

As we strive to be at the forefront of a complex and vastly changing retail industry, it is an exciting time to join the Canadian Tire family of companies.You will be joining the tax department team of nine CPA’s that support and manage all income tax areas. Your focus will be on the Sportchek and Mark’s retail businesses, along with oversight of the Helly Hansen international operations. You will also ensure that the organization is compliant with income tax laws, while identifying income tax opportunities along with the associated tax risks.What youll do

  • Manage income tax provisions, quarterly tax accounting processes, and assist with income tax forecasting and budgeting
  • Ensure that all compliance obligations, including tax returns and tax elections, are filed on a timely basis
  • Assist with income tax planning for Helly Hansen foreign operations
  • Stay current on income tax changes, analyze the implications of any changes to federal and provincial tax rules, published rulings, interpretations and court cases and communicate to the appropriate businesses
  • Manage federal and provincial income tax audits including resolving related tax disputes
  • Communicate and interact with various stakeholders including accounting and finance personnel
  • Design & improve processes to achieve operational efficiency and data accuracy with respect to the accounting for income taxes
  • Participate in special projects as required
What you bring
  • Accounting designation (CPA)
  • 5+ years of tax experience, exposure to Retail an asset
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Proven ability to solve problems, propose alternatives to resolve issues, and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Advanced working knowledge of Taxprep & Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of Peoplesoft & Hyperion an asset
  • Completion or enrollment in CICA In Depth Tax Course
