Job Description

Requisition ID: 121206Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture. The world is changing faster than ever and so are we!“Big data”, “machine learning” and “AI” are not just buzz-words; they are an ever-increasing part of our daily life. That doesn’t mean we’ve reached our potential yet. We have decades of data powering hundreds of models deployed across a multitude of systems that are crying out for smart talented team players who are results-oriented, embrace transformational challenges and relish the opportunity to help us turn our vision into reality. Our goal is to be nothing less than The Leading Bank in The Americas that puts Customers First. Achieving this will require us to assemble and retain a Winning Team that can build, manage and govern stable high-performing models and provide our business partners with the best analytic insights and advice possible. To put things in perspective, the models that we build underpin automated risk-management decisions and forecasts that impact millions of customers and keep hundreds of $billions safe every single day.We are fortunate to have a world-class team of Data Scientists, Modellers and Statisticians building incredible risk models capable of serving millions of customers and managing hundreds of billions of dollars in risk, globally, every year. Some might be tempted to rest on those laurels but not us; we want more. We believe that great models deserve great implementations. We believe that execution is everything.Model operations is responsible for ensuring that every part of the model lifecycle from development to implementation, deployment to management, and tracking to governance is as effective & efficient, as possible. In Model Operations, we are passionate about arming our data scientists with the best data and tools possible so that they can build the best models possible. We obsess over getting models implemented quickly and implemented right, the first time. We leverage a combination of business / technical consulting, collaborative development and verification / testing in our approaches. We get excited by automation. We love working with people; both internally with our peers (in business strategy, risk strategy & technology) and externally with our vendors (both new and yet to be discovered) alike. We make modelling easier to do and models easier to use.We are results-driven, work hard, play hard, nerd out, and bring service, smiles and solutions to every problem we face. What are we looking forThe Manager of Model Operations we are seeking will be someone who embraces the idea of being a key primary contributor (i.e., a consultant and “doer”) in the office of a mini “COO” obsessing over and ensuring that all of The Bank’s retail & small business risk models and supporting analytics are developed, implemented, deployed and managed efficiently, effectively and reliably. They are someone who:

  • Relishes making things easier for others (and believe that service is a virtue)
  • Build things well – the first time; to last
The type of Manager we are seeking is someone who will actively seek to build relationships and embrace collaborating with both their teammates and peers across functions (just as often using their ability to influence others as actual “authority”) in the pursuit of establishing lasting infrastructure and to solve important and urgent problems. They are someone who understands that people, process & tools are all equally important components of any enduring and effective solution.Understanding business needs, documenting / mapping existing conditions, identifying stakeholder / technology / data requirements, completing gaps assessments, proposing solutions, gaining approvals & buy-ins and ultimately ensuring that all of the above gets executed will be essential to finding success in their role.Model Operations is notably a nascent capability taking shape within Risk Models and, as such, projects & assignments will include a combination of foundational / transformation type engagements and “get it done now” tasks requiring the Manager selected for the role to be flexible, adaptive and capable of juggling multiple disparate activities at once. The ideal candidate for this role will be a consummate team player who is equally comfortable wearing the following hats:
  • Business Lead / Operations Lead
  • Technology Consultant / Business System Architect
  • Data Engineering / Automation / Dev Ops Specialist
  • Process Engineer / Process Manager
To be a Manager in Retail Models & Analytics, it isn’t enough to just be a technician (though that is incredibly important as well); you have to want to be an owner who embraces both the accountability (i.e., “the buck stops here”) and the responsibilities that come with ownership. The types of Managers we are looking for are a combination of “engineering architects who will design the assembly lines powering the factory” and “pitch in and roll-up your sleeves when needed to keep things humming along” types who relish the idea of building enterprise class solutions that WORK.Is This Role Right for You
  • You believe, first and foremost, in always doing the right thing and doing things the right way
  • You are both deeply curious and highly pragmatic
  • You know when to be doer, when to be a teacher and when to be a leader
  • You are comfortable setting ambitious but realistic goals and are committed to achieving them
  • You have a genuine love, passion and talent for strategic planning, business analysis, project management, process governance, programming, data engineering and quality
  • You are comfortable initiating conversations and collaborating with diverse personalities both internally (colleagues across the business) and externally (vendors)
  • You are committed to quality in everything you do – statistically, process and governance wise
  • You can evaluate situations, derive insights, synthesize results and communicate high-quality recommendations effectively, both verbally, and in writing
  • You are professional, motivated AND FUN. We mean it.
What do you need to succeed Wed love to work with you if you have:General
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration or an equivalent field
  • A demonstrated history of strategic planning, technical and data leadership, analytic problem solving and sound judgment delivering both “quick wins” and “enduring quality”
  • Comfortable initiating conversation, actively listening and collaborating with diverse personalities
  • A genuine love, passion and talent for both traditional and (model / software) dev ops
  • The ability to slip seamlessly between playing the role of a "long-run visionary architect" and a "roll up my sleeves and get it done primary performer" as required
  • A demonstrated aptitude for learning new things, developing unique solutions and constantly striving for improvement
  • The right blend of confidence and humility
  • Excellent project, process & time management
  • Able to work remotely and on-site on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Technical
  • Strong fundamental understanding of mathematical models, forecasting and statistics
  • Highly proficient in 2+ analytical programming languages (Python, R, SAS, etc.), SQL (Teradata, Oracle, DB2, SQL Server), and multiple environments (Unix & Windows)
  • 2+ years of experience with big data platforms / integration (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Avro)
  • Word & Excel power user with demonstrated experience writing professional business cases, memos and presentations
Nice to Haves
  • MBA, PMP or other management degree
  • Experience working with FICO / TSYS / CGI decision systems (TRIAD, OM, ACE, CACS)
  • Advanced big data administrative / optimization experience (Databricks, Min.io, YARN)
  • Deep knowledge of competing on-premise and public cloud platforms (Azure, Google, AWS)
  • Experience with traditional RDBMS databases (SQL Server, DB2) and XML schema
  • Comfortable with development ops platforms & tools (Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Puppet)
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Familiar with both traditional SDLC and agile development processes & tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • Proficient reading, writing and speaking Spanish

  • Youll get to work with and learn from an incredibly friendly and diverse group of accomplished leaders
  • Access to thousands of online and in person courses so you can brush up on skills, or learn new ones
  • Multiple career paths and innumerable progression opportunities. We hire you for your talent and not just for the job. We want to see you succeed not just in your role but in your career as a whole
  • A competitive rewards package that includes a base salary, a performance bonus, company matching programs on pension and profit sharing, paid vacation, personal & sick days, medical, vision and dental benefits that start from day one and much more!
