The Centre of Competence for Urban Rail Signalling is located right before you at mid-town Toronto. As the largest office in Canada, we house a department for every step of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)! This includes Software, Hardware, Systems Design, Verification & Validation, Operations, etc. The supporting corporate shared services teams in Finance, Human Resources and IT is also located at the office. Come join the big Transport family, here in Toronto!We are looking for a Technical Specialist to join our research and technology (R&T) team.As a System Specialist you will bring your expertise in robotics, computer vision, fusion algorithms, point cloud processing and machine learning to develop, build, test and evaluate next generation solutions for the transit market.You will be involved in research and development to create “proof-of-concept” products for the urban rail signaling domain.To participate in the analysis of very complex, real-time, autonomous system use casesTo understand the goal of a research project and support its executionTo perform analysis of lab and field test resultsTo document and defend results, designs and tradeoffsTo work with multiple sensors and the latest software algorithms to control complex, safety critical systemsTo develop expertise in railway signaling and learn the product offering of ThalesTo become a highly productive team member and team playerKey Responsibilities:Support inputs for overall design solution to product definition including system architecture, failure mode analysis and system redundancy for R&T projectsContribute to the overall architecture design of the next generation automated train solutionDevelop, analyze, implement algorithms for train applicationsUse state-of-the-art algorithms for object detection, fusion, machine vision, deep learning and adaptive control systems, and filtersPerform prototyping in simulation environments and with “proof of concept” platformsPerform modelling for simulating representative scenariosPerform hands-on experimentation to gain new knowledgePerform all phases as related to algorithm development: model, compile, build, debug, simulation, testing, validation and documentationDesign, code, integrate and test software applications required to support various R&T projectsDesign and build prototype hardwareUse and setup tools and systems for data collection and evaluation of large datasetsExperience with ‘big data’ algorithms is an assetAnalyze control system dynamics, parameters and models to generate reportsPrepares reports, giving findings on problemsProvides support to product team and other departments as required to help with productization of new solutionsAnalyzes and write requirements using Company standard methodologyWorks with system modelling tools and methodologies such as ArcadiaKeeps abreast of relevant technology developments as related to the R&T projectComfortable in an Agile work methodologyPerform design reviews per R&T lifecycleAssists in providing leadership and motivation to staffRequired Skills and Experience:PhD or Masters in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or a related fieldOver 4 years of relevant work experience or equivalentPreferred Skills and Experience:Expertise in one or more of the following: Deep Learning, Computer Vision and Machine LearningExperience with algorithms for object detection and classification, fusion, control systemsStrong knowledge in Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters, and Particle FiltersKnowledge in control theories including predictive, optimal and robust controlsWorking knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods & toolsKnowledgeable of object oriented techniques, design patterns, multithreading, socket programmingExperience in C++, Python, ROS, Linux also necessaryKnowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL an assetExperience with GPU acceleration using OpenCL or CUDA an assetExperience with a least one scripting/productivity language, and experience with file formats such as .json, messagepack, and pickle.Familiar with software building tools like Cmake, MSBuildsFamiliar with source control tools (Git, Clearcase, etc.)Cloud Computing experience: ElasticSearch, Kibana, Zeppelin, Docker, and Jenkins are all assetsStrong communication, organizational and problem-solving skillsExperience with safety critical systems an assetKnowledge of railway signaling techniques would be an assetThales is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace for all.
