Job Description

Duration: 8 MonthsPositions Available: 1Intake Date: Monday, May 6, 2024Application Deadline: Friday, January 5, 2024 (we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis)Minimum Qualifications: Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed. Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PST or MDT or relocate to a specific office (Vancouver or site-based)Trail Operations is an integrated lead-zinc smelting and refining complex located in Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern, British Columbia. Trail Operations has over 26 different operating plants and processes concentrates and other materials from around the world to produce more than 290,000 tpy of refined zinc and 70,000 tpy of refined lead. Responsibilities
  • Participation in Teck #39;s health and safety programs to ensure everyone on site goes home safely and healthy every day.
  • Upgrade and development of Process Control Hardware in different plants.
  • Maintain and improve the power distribution for the existing process control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to organize, schedule, manage costs, and monitor the progress of projects.
  • Visit plants within the operation to collect information on our assets.
  • Retain and increase the quality of the current documentation.
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve our control systems.
  • Gather and analyze data to identify critical trends, determine the root cause, and develop solutions.
  • All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work. Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.
Qualifications
  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Electrical, Automation, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering and have an interest and experience in the Process Control Field.
  • Being familiar with drawing programs like AutoCAD and Visio is a requirement.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of DCS/PLC hardware architecture (preferably Schneider Modicon PLC, Foxboro, and ABB DCS)
  • Previous work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an asset.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment, willing to work outdoors, and able to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels.
