Our outstanding commitment to workplace engagement has recently been recognised by our inclusion as the number one of the Top 25 Best Big Companies to Work.Surgical Device Partner Ophthalmology:We are seeking a purpose-driven, experienced, and passionate Surgical Device Partner with experience in Ophthalmology and more specifically in the vitreoretinal surgical environment to join our Surgical Excellence Chapter.Putting patients at the forefront of everything we do, in the Surgical Excellence chapter we bring our technical, medical and scientific expertise including therapy and device knowledge to our external partners; ensure access to our products and clinical trials and attend diligently to patient safety and the needs of our healthcare professionals.As a SDP, you will be expected to work hand in hand with our external partners and internal teams, being obsessed with what they need to deliver exceptional patient care and acting boldly with them to transform science and ultimately patient lives by accelerating "better outcomes for more patients faster".The Surgical Device Partner (SDP) is a field-based, ophthalmic surgical expert assigned to the Therapeutic Area of Ophthalmology (TA) and responsible for ophthalmic surgical technologies and medical products such as the Port Delivery System (PDS). As part of a surgical-technical team of experts, the SDP is the primary contact and trainer for surgical-technical questions from the clinical, outpatient and private practice environment. The SDP is responsible for all aspects of the training of ophthalmologists and clinical / outpatient staff, as well as for the training and technical support on the ophthalmic medical devices / PDS in order to ensure the optimal safety and results for the patient. In addition, in collaboration with the SDP team will generate insights that support and help shape the global and local PDS strategy. As an integral member of the TA, the SDP makes a decisive contribution to clinical development programs, the implementation of local Surgical Excellence programs and the establishment of ophthalmic medical devices / PDS on several levels, both internally and externally.The Surgical Device Partner Ophthalmology, is responsible for:Operational:

  • Act as the primary conduit for ophthalmic surgical technical information to and from the clinical environment, including the operating room and ophthalmology clinic.
  • Be responsible for and Independently carry out the preparations and the necessary training for all the surgical procedures of the ophthalmic medical devices / Port Delivery System with the ophthalmic surgeons, ophthalmologists and ophthalmic HCPs; Surgical virtual reality training and events, dry (surgery on artificial eyes) and wetlabs (porcine eye)
  • Provide continuous remote and/or on-site support and training of surgical staff to ensure appropriate use of the device/system
  • Accompany surgical procedures of the ophthalmic medical products / PDS (e.g. implantation / revision / explantation / refilling-exchange of the PDS), i.e. be present in the operating room and in the clinic to instruct and support the surgeon and clinic staff during live procedures.
  • Act as a guardian for high standards of compliance, ethics and safety; putting patients at the centre of all actions by consistent business behaviour that complies with applicable laws, Codes and Roche’s Code of Conduct
Strategic activities:
  • Developing and cultivating strategic relationships with therapeutic area experts and other healthcare influencers.
  • Establishing and expanding important working relationships with clinical trial centers and stakeholders to support phase I-IV clinical studies & Therapeutic Area Experts/HCPs on account level.
  • Working collaboratively in a cross-functional team
  • Act as a technical expert for evaluating clinical feasibility Studies at test centers ("site feasibility") with ophthalmic medical devices / PDS from Roche
  • Cross functional working with global to ensure appropriate and efficient alignment, coordination and communication to enable successful launch of the device and delivery of the UK clinical training program
  • Proactively monitors the external landscape to understand and communicate trends, competitive activity, risks and opportunities
  • Translating insights into strategic actionable recommendations for varied stakeholder groups to impact the way we work and ensure we help deliver positive change in healthcare across the UK, especially through co-creation
  • Advising on strategic planning and prioritisation of our ophthalmology portfolio, taking into account patients’ need, business needs, resource requirements and market access considerations
  • Innovating in areas where new, compelling solutions are required to address a particular need
  • Providing strategic medical & scientific review for materials and communications
  • Maintains the highest standards and level of scientific expertise in the team by driving continuous learning activities (e.g. journal clubs, congresses updates, updates/trainings on ophthalmic surgery procedures)
  • Identify and communicate needs as they arise, propose solutions and lead special projects ensuring completion aligned with objectives, timelines and budget, as applicable
Individual should:
  • Be able to demonstrate substantial experience and knowledge in UK ophthalmology (vitreoretinal surgery).
  • Demonstrated customer/patient centric mindset and behaviors, initiative and accountability to inform and drive best in class strategic plans.
  • Be able to prioritise workload, analyse and solve complex issues, devise appropriate tactics, gain support and consensus and consequently drive change.
  • Be competent to work in the matrix organisation, and delivery of high standard work in line with organisational needs and priorities
  • Be able to communicate effectively and inspire at all levels
  • Well-developed influencing and negotiating skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Be able to operate within a compliance-led regulatory environment with solid knowledge of device safety /pharmacovigilance
  • Be adept at operating in a highly autonomous working environment where individuals see projects through from conception to completion.
  • Act as a mentor, who supports team working and actively contributes to the learning & development of peers
  • 1 year or more experience in ophthalmic surgical and/or clinical setting required
  • Outstanding ability and desire to teach, demonstrated by possessing self-confidence and effectiveness with a wide variety of learning types
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally (up to 70-80% of the time)
  • Maintain all mandatory certifications and required hospital vendor credentials that may be addressed by the program.
  • Fluency in written and spoken academic/medical English
  • Full UK driving license
  • ABPI Qualified, or will complete and pass qualification within 2 years of being in the industry
