Apply to join our team today!POSITION SUMMARYIn accordance with standards of the Whitecap Early Learning Centre (WELC) and reporting to the Whitecap Early Learning Centre Board of Directors, the WELC Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Center’s administration and day to day operations. The Whitecap Early Learning Center Manager will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the CentreRESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. In accordance with standards of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and reporting to the ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Director of Health, the Employee will:In the area of Administration & Finance

  • In consultation with the governing board and the community, develop and implement a philosophy of early childhood development and care that protects and respects the rights of children and their families
  • Develop and implement operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction and ELC philosophy
  • Oversee all elements of the ELC registration and enrollment process and provide an ELC orientation to new parents
  • Accurately maintain individual children’s files
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained
  • Lead the development of an annual operating budget and oversee day to day operations of the ELC within the approved budget
  • Work with Leadership and the Finance Team to secure and maintain adequate funding for the year-round operations of the ELC by researching and completing fund/grant opportunities
  • Maintain awareness of current legislation – provincial and federal – that governs the Child Care and Head Start programs
  • Review and formulate recommendations on policies and other matters relating to the operations of the ELC and implement policies established by the board
  • Ensure licensing requirements are maintained
  • Prepare and submit various performance and board reports
In the area of Programming and Learning Environment
  • Provide guidance and support to ELC educators to develop and implement programming approaches and practices that are consistent with the community philosophy and foundational elements of high-quality early learning programs
  • Develop new programs to meet the evolving needs of the children and community
  • Engage professional support, as needed, to enhance child development programming
  • Ensure that adequate and appropriate learning materials are available
  • Evaluate program quality and assist ELC educators in evaluating and revising children’s programming as required.
  • Manage space requirements and maintain a respectful environment.
In the Area of Communication and Community Engagement
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships and regular communication with parents and families; facilitate or directly provide mediation and resolution to parent-program conflicts which arise
  • Ensure regular liaison and communication, as required and applicable, with third parties and partners
  • Represent the ELC by participation on committees in the childcare community and participate in community activities designed to further the objectives of the ELC; and
  • Ensure adequate and timely communication of key messages and decisions to ELC staff, families, and partners.
  • Work with the board on developing and implementing strategies for marketing of ELC services
In the Area of Employee Engagement and Training
  • Provide supervision, leadership and support to all centre staff and coordinate staff scheduling
  • Model high quality childcare and provide ongoing constructive feedback to ELC educators and staff
  • Conduct annual formal performance evaluations of ELC educators and staff; and
  • Ensure appropriate professional development opportunities are made available to centre staff.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in Early Childhood Studies or related degree and an Early Childhood Education Diploma.
  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator Level III.
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in early childhood education and childcare, including two (2) years of experience supervising staff. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent motivational and team-building skills.
  • Experience maintaining staff schedules and ensuring ratios are always maintained as per the provincial requirements.
  • Experience creating reports, policies, manuals, and curriculum frameworks.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills and experience managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated capacity and commitment to engage and communicate with families, children, and other internal or external partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and relationship management skills. Capacity to develop lasting partnerships with School.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Must be flexible to work beyond regular working hours, possibility of evenings and/or weekends.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Certificates.
  • The successful candidate will be subject to an acceptable Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment
