Job Description

POSITION SUMMARYWhitecap Dakota First Nation is seeking a Fulltime, Permanent Nutrition Worker toplan and implement healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate menu planning and production that supports children’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual development.DutiesThe following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. In accordance with standards of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and reporting to the Manager of the Early Learning Centre, the Employee will:

  • Follow the Canada’s Dietary Guidelines, plan and carry out meal programs and revolving menus that meets the nutritional needs of children
  • Prepare and serve healthy and nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch and/or snacks) according to meal programs, appropriate portion sizes and nutritional needs (or other guidelines we follow like Canadian Food Guide)
  • Prepares and builds healthy and nutritious food items according to standardized recipes and directions
  • Follow food safety standards to ensure that food items are prepared, stored, and served in a safe manner
  • Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Clean and sterilize all kitchen work and eating areas, counters, utensils, cutlery, appliances, and equipment used during food preparation and service
  • Maintains excellent service and demonstrates a positive attitude towards children, parents, guests, and co-workers
  • Keep inventory records and reorder stock related to the facility as required / requested
  • Attend in-service and training sessions as necessary
  • Any other related duties that may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to obtain, or already has obtained, Saskatchewan Safe Food Handling certification
  • Previous Food Service experience preferred
  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 lbs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and family systems
  • First Aid, CPR and AED is an asset.
  • Ability to relate to children of all ages, backgrounds, and educational needs
  • The successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Search
