Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:The Orientation Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and providing orientation services and activities within the Windsor and Essex County area to assist newcomers to Canada with their settlement and integration process, facilitating accessing services in the community and addressing general settlement and integration needs as part of the MCC’s LOW Programs for Newcomers to Canada as funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma and/or degree in related field of study (ie Human Services, Education, Social Work, Communication) and/or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with issues related to diverse populations and youth.
  • Administrative, planning, facilitation, written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom is a must.
  • Proficiency in Facebook, Messenger, Live and Groups is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada funded programs is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with iCARE, HARTs and/or OCMS databases is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Level 3 vulnerable sector police clearance, renewed every 3 years.
  • Multilingual is an asset
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:GENERAL
  • Ensure all orientation activities are in line with the Settlement and Integration Programs goals and objectives.
  • Provides orientation, information, assessment, referral services as required.
  • Provides orientation services on a one-on-one basis or in group settings.
  • Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate orientation sessions taking in account client needs and engaging with other program staff for the planning and delivery of orientation sessions.
  • Meet the targets to be achieved per year as outlined by the IRCC contract.
  • Maintain and input data into the OCMS client database as well as the HARTs and iCARE databases as required and into hardcopy client files if required.
  • Maintain MCC Calendar of activities up to date as per group orientation session activities scheduled.
  • Stay current on all community services, particularly those often used by newcomer clients, to provide information and referrals.
  • Develop and implement orientation and information materials along with assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Facilitate orientation and training sessions and maintain accurate records of activities performed, and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Liaise, develop, and maintain rapport with community-based organizations and organizations serving immigrants. Engage guest speakers from the community for the Orientation information sessions as required.
  • Assist clients with day-to-day settlement needs and access to services.
  • Perform reception duties as required such as answering phones, greeting clients, booking Orientation Program appointments, and others as required.
  • Ensure all deadlines for OCMS and iCARE database entry are met on a weekly and monthly basis as required.
  • Arrange for language aids/interpreters/volunteers as required.
  • Liaise with the immediate supervisor to keep them up to date with all issues and concerns with the program.
  • Participate in regular program, team and organization meetings as required.
  • Attend relevant community meetings as required.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required.
  • Participate and attend outreaching activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • **NOTE: Due to COVID, several of the tasks and responsibilities may be handled digitally online while working from home. While staff are working in-office, sickness and/or provincial regulations may require a hybrid model of online and in-person program & service delivery.
