Job Description

CancerCare Manitoba located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is a provincial agency which provides clinical and academic services and leadership for cancer control and the treatment of blood disorders.We invite applications for the position of:Breast Cancer Patient & Family EducatorPatient & Family Support Services – MacCharlesTerm, Full Time (1.0 EFT)Start Date: Sept 12, 2022 - Indefinite Term (may expire with 2 weeks notice)Competition #248-22-715521241Job Summary:Reporting to the Program Leader, the Breast and Gyne Cancer Centre of Hope (BGCCH), Breast Cancer Patient & Family Educator works collaboratively with all members of the health care team and uses a person-centred model of care to provide education, information, support, and referrals across the breast cancer continuum (risk reduction, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, recurrence, metastases and palliative care). This includes education and support to navigate the health care system and access services and resources. Community outreach, excellent communication skills and participation in the development of strategies for the promotion of breast health and breast cancer services are key elements of this position. The CancerCare Manitoba Breast and Gyne Cancer Centre of Hope is one of the programs of Patient and Family Support Services.Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate of Nursing
  • Registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in oncology.
  • Strong computer skills in Outlook, Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada
Preferred:
  • Master of Nursing
  • Knowledge of community outreach strategies and experience working with culturally diverse populations preferred.
Asset:
  • CON(C) an asset
  • Experience working in ARIA electronic health record an asset.
  • Excellent public speaking skills, experience with delivery of presentations an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge related to patient and public education, including development and evaluation of group education sessions are assets.
  • Ability to speak French
Will be assessed During the Interview Process:
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an understanding of the importance of information, open and honest patient / health care provider communication, and inclusion in the treatment decision making process.
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem solving skills is essential.
  • Collaborative approach to multi-disciplinary work essential.
  • Must own or have suitable access to transportation for performance of duties.
