Job Description

The Academic Programs Officer provides direct support to the Office of the Vice-President, Academic (VPA) and serves as an advisor to the VPA on issues related to strategic directions, academic programs, and institutional projects.The successful candidate will be experienced in conducting extensive research and analysis, delivering presentations, facilitating strategic planning, and developing and interpreting reports. A self-starter who is able to provide advice and guidance and develop collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders in order to support strategic institutional decision-making.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting mechanisms related to academic priorities, internal processes, and program management.
  • Interpret data collection results through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and develop appropriate reporting.
  • Inform the University’s approach to addressing outcomes in the academic plan and work directly with provincial officials when new initiatives are being developed and implemented.
  • Advise the Provost, Deans and Directors, and other senior staff, on matters related to academic programs related to strategic initiatives and program planning.
  • Advise on the development of new program proposals at the undergraduate and graduate level and oversee the supporting documentation and proposal development processes.
  • Plan, organize, and implement research projects related to strategic academic programming and priority projects.
  • Develop, implement, and document procedures for data collection, analysis, and interpretation;
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and Student Services to oversee and analyze policies, procedures, and promising practices related to academic programs and student support services.
  • Coordinate with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in relation to graduate programs and developing a strategic enrolment plan for Graduate Studies; assist with Graduate Studies processes and Senate related matters.
  • Prepare reports to the Board of Regents and Senate on academic programming and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate external (government) requests for data and reporting on academic matters.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in a research related discipline (e.g., educational administration, social sciences, mathematics or statistics).
  • At least five years experience involving statistical research, review, analysis, interpretation and reporting including work with institutional assessments, research and planning functions.
  • Advanced principles, practices, procedures, theories, models and techniques involved in the research, collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of statistical data.
  • Experience working independently.
  • Experience communicating complicated statistical information in plain language and developing visual presentations, such as infographics.
  • Experience working with a large database or data warehouse.
  • Extensive experience in conducting large complex studies.
  • Previous experience at a senior level in a research function would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary system in Canada and/or experience working in a University or College setting would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of survey design and analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of evaluative research design and analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques including correlation and regression.
  • Knowledge of performance review systems including Balanced Scorecard would be an asset.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage time to meet varying timelines.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people to understand their needs, understand where data is located and how best to report it.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:
