Job Description

*This is a term position to December 31, 2022*Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person at this time with the possibility of a hybrid schedule (part in person, part remote) once established in this role.All members of the UW Community and anyone who seeks entry to indoor campus spaces are required to comply with the University of Winnipeg’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy: https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/institutional-analysis/docs/policies/vaccine-policy.pdfResponsibilities:

  • prepares reports and does analyses of accounts for departments as required
  • reviews and posts all recurring journal entries
  • monitors journal entries for completeness and accuracy and follows up on discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of information in the general ledger
  • posts financial transactions to the General Ledger (e.g. journal entries, general receipts, payroll, student billing and accounts payable).
  • reviews accounts payable edit listing for invalid accounts and makes sure that the accounts are in balance.
  • monitors University-wide the operating accounts for anomalies, posting errors and other errors on a monthly basis
  • sets up monthly accruals (e.g. regular utilities and security contract).
  • prepares and sets up the recurring journal entries (e.g. Internal & External Over Head charges & recoveries, grants from operating, parking, bank charges, and others as required).
  • prepares and formats pre import donation receipt register from the UW Foundation (monthly) for importing to University General Ledger.
  • prepares import journal entry for Visa transfer to the GL which includes verification of PST self-assess and account accuracy.
  • prepares journal entries as required for corrections to accounts, GST rebates on invoices.
  • prepares year end working papers for the General Ledger on various accounts (e.g. prepaid expenses, due to/from Pension Fund, Bookstore A/R, Postage, etc.)
  • creates year end journal entries for Printing and other areas.
  • responds to queries from departments relating to their accounts and works with them to correct errors and resolve issues
  • runs and distributes regular monthly reports to departments
  • Assists Accounts Payable and Research during peak volumes as required
  • establishes and maintains files
  • assists in other areas experiencing high workload as appropriate
Qualifications:
  • University Degree in Accounting
  • Current enrollment in a professional accounting program with intention to complete would be an asset
  • Minimum of 2 years’ directly related experience is required
  • Previous experience working in an educational setting with knowledge of programs, policies is preferred
  • Several years dealing with finances at a University would be an asset
  • Demonstrated competence of MS Excel, and computerized financial systems is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with constant change
  • Ability to work in a team
Experience and skills in financial accounting software and technologyAn equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:
