Job Description

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Acquisition Project Manager to join the Strategic Operations & Support team, committed to protecting our most important natural areas and the biodiversity they sustain.NCC is the nation’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962 NCC and its supporters have protected 15 million hectares (more than 35 million acres) of ecologically significant land across Canada. With a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country, NCC delivers results you can walk on.Position SummaryThe Project Manager is the central resource responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving NCC’s project management framework for land acquisitions. This framework includes project governance, policies and processes, tools and templates, training as well as monitoring and reporting. The Project Manager will advise team members across Canada on project management best practices and requirements while designing and implementing methods for tracking NCCs progress toward project milestones, schedules, budgets, risk mitigation plans and communication strategies for significant land securement initiatives.Responsibilities include developing project charters, supporting execution of project deliverables, preparing, and communicating status reports and facilitating debriefs upon project completion to share with the Project Steering Committee and NCC leadership teams.The Project Manager will have the skills to facilitate multidisciplinary teams to identify and resolve issues and/or risks throughout the project life cycle and promote effective internal communication. They will also track the delivery and success of projects; multiple projects will be underway concurrently with close to 100 active projects occurring across Canada at any given time. Due to this, they require the ability to multi-task while being hyper focused on details. Advanced analysis skills are needed to review processes and systems to gauge the success based on adherence to timeline, efficient execution of work within scope and available team capacity.This role will provide functional leadership to NCC staff overseeing projects, resulting in the successful advancement of land securement projects throughout their life cycle. This role will support NCC teams in developing effective project plans with efficient assignment, and execution of tasks, resulting in high quality projects that are poised to deliver the best return on investment for the organization (as determined by the overall goals of NCC). The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator and be able to provide leadership with timely briefings on projects.Position Requirements

  • University Degree or equivalent education and experience in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, preferably related to land acquisition, development, or management
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset
  • Strong commitment to the cause and mission of the Nature Conservancy of Canada
  • Advanced project management skills, including ability to manage multiple projects and complex programs
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with staff, collaboratively & skillfully inspiring teams to work collectively to achieve goals,
  • Strong understanding of formal project management methodologies and use of planning tools such as MS Project, Excel, SharePoint and TEAMS
  • Ability to understand budgets
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to make decisions independently with sound judgement and creativity
  • Well-developed communication skills (written, verbal, listening)
  • Diplomatic, being able to prioritize and effectively manage expectations
  • Experience in conservation real estate an asset
  • Bilingual (English and French) is considered an asset
