This role is one of two technicians responsible for supporting the information technology infrastructure of the Applied Computer Science Department.The incumbent in this role will provide technical support for afternoon and evening classes (2:00 pm – 9:00 pm) between September to April and work a combination of day and evening shifts between April to August.Responsibilities:Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot ACS Microsoft Active Directory and servers.Set up and configure all new PCs/virtual desktop devices and other equipment, installing application packages, refreshing PCs and replacing the consumables in above labs/classrooms.Assist ACS faculty and Graduate students with deployment, configuration, and administration of the servers/computers acquired through faculty members’ research grants.Provide in-house trouble-shooting to ACS faculty, staff and students on hardware platforms and software packages used in teaching, research, administration and learning.Administer the special-purpose servers in ACS and application software systems.Document ACS network configuration and overall resources.Create and maintain Windows-based ACS domain as well as UNIX-based accounts.Estimate, plan, schedule, and track work on/for projects/teams.Liaison with several external entities including:UW Technology Solutions Centre (TSC) in regard to equipment interfaces and service requests between ACS and TSCIndustry/vendor IT support and sales services in regard to technical support for hardware and software, and purchase quotes and submissions for new hardware and softwareHires, trains, and supervises temporary student workersQualifications:Post-secondary Diploma in a relevant field of studyCertification with Cisco routers and switches, and/or Microsoft and Linux systems is an asset2-5 years’ experience providing IT technical supportExperience with Cisco routers and switchesExperience with virtualization in Hyper-V environmentExperience with Windows and Linux system administration and computer networkingExperience in networking with emphasis on Cisco router/switch management; knowledge of IP networks, subnets and routing and other network servicesExperience working with students is an assetUnderstanding of Linux and Windows Operating SystemsAbility to install and maintain software, computer hardware, upgrades, and PC imagingTechnical problem solving and troubleshooting skillsDetail and team oriented individual with strong communication skillsProven ability to work independently and under minimum supervisionOrganizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and respond to diverse and often conflicting demandsAn equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.Must be able to work from 2:00pm - 9:00pm during Fall, Winter and Spring terms (September to April)Must be able to work day and evening shifts during Summer term (April to August)The University of Winnipeg is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and recognizes that a diverse staff and faculty benefits and enriches the work, learning and research environments, and is essential to academic and institutional excellence.
