The opportunity:Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Associate Vice President, Human Resources works under broad, administrative direction with responsibility for providing strategic leadership and direction in the planning, implementing, improving, and evaluating of the Human Resources department and promoting operational improvements.The Associate Vice President, Human Resources provides senior level advice, guidance and direction on all human resources matters that shape the experience and engagement of Wellington-Altus Private Wealth (WAPW) employees and supports the achievement of short-term tactical and long-range strategic goals through the development of sound human resource policies and programs, efficient human resource processes, and ensuring a high standard of internal alignment.Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and ensuring execution of HR strategies aligned with enterprise-wide HR objectives, values and philosophy, and Wellington-Altus Private Wealths business strategies and objectives.
  • Monitoring appropriate HR measures to assess the effectiveness of HR strategies for the business and ensure compliance with the organizations policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing direction and input on organizational structure, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Serving as a member of the Leadership Team leading the business in developing strategic plans while providing an engaging culture to retain and grow talent.
  • Maintaining high level knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments and applicable laws regarding human resources.
  • Enabling effective talent planning to ensure high potential resources are identified for key positions and appropriate plans are developed and implemented to support succession plans.
  • Supporting the attraction, development and retention of talent- partnering closely with business leaders to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time and that diversity in the workplace is a high priority.
  • Anticipating the HR implications of business strategies and initiatives and advising & influencing the leadership team accordingly.
  • Anticipating and managing the concerns of multiple stakeholders and ensuring all parts of the function are provided with high quality advice and support for their HR needs.
  • Leading the HR Management team to provide balanced and practical solutions on a range of HR matters.
  • Mentoring and supporting career growth and development of direct reports.
  • Helping identify learning opportunities and skills gaps for direct reports.
  • Working closely with the senior leadership team and acting as a trusted advisor across all aspects of HR and people planning and management to ensure business objectives and plans are delivered.
  • Managing the creation of change strategies and plans to drive the successful implementation of complex projects and programs.
  • Providing guidance to leadership on change management, organization assessment and how to leverage HR tools and programs to create an effective organization.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A University degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or Business Administration or related experience.
  • CPHR, or working towards, is an asset.
  • 10-15 years of experience in Human Resource leadership with a deep understanding across multiple disciplines.
  • Proven leadership in large change programs and processes in partnership with the business, demonstrating the ability to act as a catalyst for change.
  • Demonstrated relationship building skills with a superior ability to deliver results with a commitment to operational and service excellence using positive impact and influence.
  • A proven ability to develop and execute on strategies and delivering superior results both in short and long term in alignment with overall business strategies.
  • An ability to act as a powerful communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders and employees.
  • Confident presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills including high EQ and emotional maturity to facilitate working with senior management at all levels.
  • Negotiation and partnership skills to balance stakeholder input while remaining objective to reach the right outcome.
  • A proven ability in developing and deploying a vision and aligning others to that vision.
  • A reputation for providing creative thought leadership while also listening to and engaging others to provide input in shaping the vision.
  • A strong ability to attract top talent, inspire and bring out the best in team members through a demonstrated passion for the business and willingness to recognize and reward the contributions of others.
  • An ability to be comfortable operating in a complex, fast-paced organization.
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
