Job Description

Travel Manitoba is a Crown Corporation responsible for stimulating innovative, sustainable tourism growth in Manitoba’s $1.5 billion tourism industry. In partnership with the tourism industry, Travel Manitoba is responsible for tourism marketing, visitor information services, research and public information. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team.Bilingual Team Leader and Travel Counsellor – Visitor Information Centre (The Forks Location)The Bilingual Team Leader & Travel Counsellor is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Visitor Information Centre including:

  • supervising the Travel Counsellors at The Forks Visitor Information Center;
  • establishing and overseeing work priorities for the team;
  • ensuring compliance with all Visitor Services and Travel Manitoba policies/procedures, guidelines, etc.;
  • oversight of the Travel Manitoba distribution centre functions and other administrative functions; and
  • indirect supervision of the Travel Counsellors located in Emerson, Kirkella and Whiteshell;
The Bilingual Team Leader will also perform the same tasks as a Bilingual Travel Counsellor.The Bilingual Team Leader & Travel Counsellor provides VIC related operational and administrative support to the Vice President-Finance, Operations and Visitor Services, in the delivery of visitor information centre programs and initiatives. The incumbent will ensure that outstanding customer service is provided to visitors.Position Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeam Leader:
  • Assists with the operation of Travel Manitoba visitor information centres to ensure they are properly staffed providing accurate, friendly and informative services.
  • Provides supervision and supports VIC staff.
  • Assists with recruitment, coordinates staff training, and trains new and existing staff.
  • Plans and coordinates the themed activity for the Visitor Information Centres.
  • Supports the sale of Travel Manitoba merchandise.
  • Oversees the materials distribution and inventory functions, ensuring that requests for material are filled on a timely and cost effective basis.
  • Provides support in the maintenance of the industry database listings in Simpleview.
  • Assists with Master Angler and Master Hunter program administration.
  • Assists with visitor and distribution centre facilities management to ensure maintenance and repairs are addressed as required. Ensures that all such facilities are clean, comfortable and safe for staff and visitors. Plans for equipment needs.
  • Provides support to the Visitor Information Services staff/partners at the regional information centres.
  • Collects, reviews and ensures comments, complaints and feedback received during contacts with visitors and industry operators are collected and acted upon by appropriate personnel; ensures all relevant information are included.
  • Leads and/or participates in projects as assigned and/or required.
Travel Counsellor:
  • Provides travel counselling and trip planning assistance (face to face, by phone and on-line, live-chat) to visitors, with an aim to promote, increase frequency, and duration of stay in Manitoba.
  • Responds to any inquiries received via Travel Manitoba’s web-site (ie: Minister’s offices and the general public).
  • Records all inquiries into databases for historical data and for fulfilment processing.
  • Manages promotional items, displays & brochures inventory through CRM.
  • Collects information from assigned tourism suppliers and enters data into content management and tourism information databases to support the annual marketing campaigns. Ensures assigned tourism supplier files are updated regularly and the content for these assigned tourism suppliers on Travel Manitoba’s websites is up to date.
  • Assists with data entry and updating the CRM.
  • Assists with data entry for Master Angler & Master Hunter programs administered by Travel Manitoba.
  • Provides support for shipping, receiving, couriers and mailing from the corporate office.
  • Prepares tailored information packages and rush orders when requested.
  • Answers the corporation’s general phone line and redirects calls to the appropriate person within the corporation.
  • Participates in trade shows/events and visitor information booths for set-up and as a representative of Travel Manitoba.
  • Attends training, familiarization tours, conferences and meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned/required.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Tourism or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum six months supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Minimum two years customer service experience.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written & verbal) and public relations skills
  • Ability to work independently/unsupervised as well as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Manitoba’s tourism industry an asset
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment
  • Must have the ability to work weekends and statutory holidays
  • Microsoft Office and database management
  • Must be bilingual (English/French)
  • Current valid Manitoba driver’s license
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
