About Cytophage Technologies IncCytophage Technologies Inc is small biotech company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, working on the development of bacteriophages that serve as an alternative to antibiotics and help tackle the global problem of antibiotic resistance.Our vision is that every hospital, every veterinarian and every agricultural facility will have a supply of Cytophage products to manage any incumbent or emergent bacterial infection.Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking a full-time Bioinformatician to work in our Research and Development department. This position will report to the Lead Research Scientist. Specific project work will include contract research for customers with next-generation sequencing requests.Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to:o Machine set up and maintenance, extraction and library preparation for DNA and/or RNA samples, performing sequencing and be able to perform data analysis, present requested outputs per customer’s desireso Developing and supporting bioinformatics related protocols and workflows, including updating as neededo Researching, planning, implementing, and testing bioinformatics software tools that meet the analysis needs for specific collaborative projectso Ensuring that data is managed efficiently, securely, and without loss or corruption through its lifecycleo Conducting on-site customer training on Next-Generation Sequencing, library preparation, bioinformatics, consumables, related products and new product developmento Responding to queries from customers, specifically to improve experimental design, workflow best practices, and data storage and analysiso Troubleshooting protocols, workflows and customer complaints which may include but not limited to: biochemistry, experimental design, software, instrumentso Regularly communicate essential technical product updates to external customerso Contributing to customer relationship management, understanding customer goals, setting appropriate product and performanceo Willingness to be accessible outside of normal working hourso Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needsJob QualificationsEducation and Experienceo Education: Masters degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field and 3+ years of experience; or a PhD; or equivalent work experienceo 3+ years biotech experience preferred.o Advanced skills in Linux shell programming environmento Proficiency with some Linux based scripting language (Perl, Python etc.) requiredo Competence with general purpose software development languages such as C, C++, Java preferredo Experience working with Illumina and Nanopore systems are highly desirableo Knowledge of genomics, sequencing applications, and methods that apply to Illumina NGS technology.o Experience with statistical and graphical software packages (R, Matlab) and associated bioinformatics librarieso Experience providing end-user software support, diagnosing and resolving end-user issueso Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environmento Prior field experience supporting customers in a highly technical fieldo Demonstrated understanding of commonly-used Genotyping data analysis software applications and Bioinformatics tools and programs helpful.o Proficient with general lab best practices and common Molecular Biology techniques.
