Job Description

The company where you can make an impact and bring value.Job Summary:Agronomix Software, a leading software development company for plant breeding and agronomy, has an immediate full-time permanent opening for a bioinformatics professional. Expected start date would be August 1, 2022, or soon thereafter. You will be part of a team of professionals located in Winnipeg, MB, who support and develop our software used in over 40 countries worldwide by plant breeders and agronomists at seed companies, universities, and government research centres. Reporting to the Chief Scientific officer, this position will revolve around Genovix, our software application for plant breeding and variety testing. You will be located with the team at our office in Winnipeg.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and utilize bioinformatic tools in plant breeding and genetics.
  • Interact with the Agronomix software development team for the ongoing development of the Genovix bioinformatics module.
  • Integrate statistical and data visualization tools for genetics and variety testing within Genovix.
  • Create professional documentation for such new and enhanced tools and procedures in Genovix.
  • Interact with the Breeding Software Professional support team as they support our clients globally.
  • Assist in the quality control and testing for bioinformatic and statistical enhancements in all Genovix releases.
  • With our support team, provide technical support in the bioinformatic and statistical tools for our clients.
  • Be current with the last bioinformatic trends, tools, R packages, for their possible integration within Genovix.
  • Develop competence in the use of Genovix.
  • Provide consulting services in bioinformatics for Genovix clients.
Skills and Qualifications
  • An MSc or PhD in bioinformatics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in software development with R and other relevant tools.
  • Strong knowledge in relevant R packages.
  • Strong knowledge of plant breeding.
  • Sound knowledge of experimental design and statistics and relevant R packages.
  • Experience in programming object-oriented languages (e.g., Python, Perl, Java).
  • Strongly computer literate.
  • Experience with cloud computing (e.g. Azure or AWS) would be an asset.
  • Experience in teaching or training would be an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently with minimal supervision.
  • Passion for continuous learning and improvement.
  • Strong relational, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Legally permitted to work in Canada
