Job Description

Balmoral Hall is an independent school for girls from Junior Nursery to Grade 12. The School encourages girls to discover their passions in academics, arts, and athletics, while welcoming boarding students from around the world. Balmoral Hall inspires the imagination and courage to excel, to reach, to lead, to care.Reporting to the Dean of Boarding, Boarding Assistants are members of a team that fulfill a vital role within the boarding program by assisting in the day-to-day supervision and support of boarding students in the Balmoral Hall School Boarding program. We are seeking two reliable and engaging candidates who wish to further their experience working with adolescent middle & senior school students.The Boarding Assistant is responsible for a range of key duties and activities including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of students during their shift
  • Support boarders through developmental and mental health issues by being someone to talk with and to trust
  • Facilitate resolution of conflicts/issues among roommates and boarders by providing solutions and if necessary, consequences
  • Work within a team environment to provide care to boarders and have open communication with other staff and the Dean of Boarding
  • Document all incidents and maintain a daily record of events, communicate with parents and families of boarder students.
  • Acting as a mentor and role model to students and typifying expected behaviour of students
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Part time variable hours per week.
  • Shifts may be variable in length and may be a combination of evenings, weekends, and overnights.
  • Attendance at work is a critical requirement of the position and the incumbent must be able to attend work on a regular and reliable basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess or are pursuing post-secondary education in the fields of education, social work, psychology, counselling and/or posses a relevant combination of training and experience.
  • Candidates must be effective in providing support and direction to students with maturity, and empathy.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage and communicate with adolescent girls.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and carry out events and activities that enrich the boarding experience for the boarding students.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and cope when faced with unexpected with new situations and unexpected difficulties.
  • Must have an appreciation and sensitivity to diverse cultures.
  • Ability to understand and respond to boarding organizational needs and looks for opportunities to improve the boarding experience for each student.
