Shall perform routine pharmacy assistant tasks such as but not limited to:- assisting in inventory management; accurately inputting, filling, and filing prescriptions and other documentation; directing patient questions to appropriate staff; communicating appropriately with patients in person or via telephone; operating cash register, including processing all cash, credit, cheque, and charge transactions; and disposal of old and expired medications, along with other duties as assigned;In addition, they shall also perform specialized tasks that shall be conducted in accordance with:1) regulations and guidelines as set forth by the College of Pharmacy;2) the Pharmacy specific procedures and policies;3) the direction of their supervising pharmacist.These specialized tasks may include but shall not be limited to the following:· perform a final check of and sign off of compliance packages when the process of preparing the drug for dispensing is completed by another staff member;· dispense a drug only if the filling of the prescription has been approved by a licensed pharmacist and the standards of practice related to a pharmacist’s responsibility to counsel are met;· identify drug related problems that require referral to a pharmacist;· give instructions to a person about how to operate a medical device, but not an explanation involving the interpretation of results;· request and receive refill authorizations only if there is no change to the prescription.
