Job Description

*This posting will be used to hire for two positions. One is for 0-11 hours per week, and the other is for 0-8 hours per week*Responsibilities:

  • Checks out and checks in circulating resources (including Reserves material) to authorized patrons and renews materials for library users as appropriate using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and associated support systems.
  • Creates, updates, and revises Library patron records as required in the ILS when appropriate documentation is provided.
  • Responds to routine inquiries by users of the Library, referring more complex questions to senior staff.
  • Assists Library users in the use of library tools, services, and equipment.
  • Provides basic maintenance for Library photocopiers and printers.
  • Accepts payments and issues receipts for fines, lost books, printing and photocopies, and may handle petty cash.
  • Deals directly with patrons concerning circulation issues, resolves issues and explains Library policies, and refers complaints and broader administrative concerns to an appropriate supervisor.
  • Performs minor mending, referring more complex repairs to mending specialist.
  • Carries out Library opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Sorts and shelves Library resources according to location and classification number.
  • Assists with shelf-reading.
  • Performs searches for missing materials.
  • Assists with general stack maintenance, including general tidying, shifting, and picking up browsed materials.
  • Works on Library related projects under the direction of the Circulation Supervisor and/or the Access Services Librarian.
  • Attends Circulation and Library wide meetings.
  • Attends meetings and takes part in Library Committees as appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • High School Completion or acceptable equivalent.
  • One year of directly related Library experience, using procedures and systems appropriate to the area.
  • General experience with standard Windows and Internet software environments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with faculty, staff, students, and the public;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to apply automated and manual procedures;
  • Accurate keyboard skills and the ability to use software packages currently in use.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.
