The Well-Being Learning Centre is a mental health and well-being education program that provides co-produced courses with an adult learning perspective, including discussions and sharing of experiences. Huddle Broadway is intended to be a one-stop-shop for youth to have ease of access to mental and physical health, addictions, financial and employment supports, culturally appropriate Indigenous counselling, supports, events and activities as well as opportunities to connect with their community and each other through structured educational programming, and events. This program is designed to help youth (12 – 29) reach their goals and highest potential. The Community Educator will support the development and delivery of courses directed to youth and families.The Community Educator relates to and engages with participants of the organization from an empathetic perspective using knowledge and self-awareness to inspire hope, empowerment, and recovery. The Community Educator provides education and encouragement regarding recovery, provides emotional and social support, develops courses in a co-production approach collaborating with youth, facilitates courses, and connects individuals with community resources. The Community Educator will work as a part of a team including the Huddle Broadway Manager, and the Well-Being Learning Centre Manager to create and deliver mental health and well-being education to youth in a learning centre for youth called the Discovery College.This salary range for this position falls within the Collective Agreement Band 4 scale of between $43,950.66 and $53,560.17.Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and delivery of educational courses and training on a variety of topics related to mental health and addictions, health, well-being, and recovery Facilitate educational sessions on a range of topics related to recovery, health, and well-being
  • Co-production and design of courses, which involves deep and meaningful collaboration with stakeholders including students, community partners and advisory councils
  • Prepare for design: course materials, including engaging presentations, facilitator guides, resource packages and marketing and promotional materials
  • Deliver mental health and illness education to external groups and organizations
  • Assess education and training needs for pre-determined target groups
  • Investigate and evaluates curricula being used in other places for suitability
  • Develop workshop curricula to achieve specific learning objectives of groups
  • Coordinate details and arrangements
  • Monitor and evaluate education and training activities
  • Provide educational displays/workshops to the public, and/or support to volunteers in this area as appropriate
  • Lead planning and administering education campaigns to the public (i.e., Mental Health Week events)
  • Assume coordination in the delivery of education and training events when the agency is involved in joint projects
  • Work collaboratively with project partners according to partnership agreements
  • Maintain knowledge base on other education/training opportunities being offered in the community
  • Maintains and updates documentation and statistical data as prescribed
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives to advance the mission and ends of the organization
Qualifications
  • This position requires a post-secondary degree in human services
  • Three years’ experience:
  • Developing adult education courses using co-production methodology
  • Delivering adult education courses
  • Developing a range of printed materials
  • Delivering presentations in small and large group settings
  • Knowledge of mental health and well-being and mental illness and recovery experiences
  • Knowledge of mental health and addictions system and community services
  • Knowledge of adult education theory and practices
  • Knowledge of social emotional learning theory
  • Knowledge of Recovery College model
  • Knowledge of project management practices
  • Knowledge of current audio/visual technology and computer software
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Superior engagement and communication skills
  • Able to analyze issues and use sound judgment
  • Problem solving and time management skills
  • Demonstrate competence in cultural safety and collaborates effectively with individuals with various cultural backgrounds
  • Must have recent satisfactory criminal records check/vulnerable persons, and recent satisfactory abuse registry checks
  • Flexible working hours, including some evenings
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
